One of the band's earliest breaks came when Davey spotted Fran Healy of Travis and took his chance to pass him a demo. A week later The Crimea opened for Travis at Brixton Academy.
Containing former members of The Crocketts, The Crimea had a single, "Baby Boom", in the famous John Peel's festive 50 (reaching #8) and have recently released their album "Tragedy Rocks" on the back of several succesful UK tours, notably supporting Ash, Kings Of Leon, Billy Corgan, Stereophonics, Jimmy Eat World and appearing on the same Carling stage at the Reading and Leeds festivals as the now famous Arctic Monkeys. Recently, singles "Lottery Winners On Acid" and "White Russian Galaxy" have recieved airplay on MTV2, and the band have been recieving fervent reviews of their live show, mainly based on the crowd based antics of singer Davey and their "satanic bubble machine".
In 2007 they released their latest album, Secrets of the Witching Hour, as an entirely free download.
Weird
The Crimea Lyrics

Brace yourself, this is the apocalypse.
Two worlds collide before my eyes,
in a blaze of black and white the moon explodes in the dark, dark, dark night.
See this cave, see this canyon,
See this black hole, see this chasm.
See the storm brew, feel the Earth move,
It's not easy being weird in a world with no idea how.
Rapunzel above me, receiving chemotherapy.
Throw down your... oh, sorry, how stupid of me.
I'll never say you name again,
there's no going back now, we made our choice and we'll go down guns blazing.
Gone the sun, need a miracle. Hear the gospel, see the raging bull. See the storm brew, feel the Earth move,
take a quantum leap with all the other freaks.
It's not easy being weird in a world with no idea how.
Pterodactyls take on the helicopter gunship,
Pterodactyls take on the helicopter gunship.
As your life flashes before your eyes, alone, we face the apocalypse.
The ghost of Christmas past, the Gods of war, and the bastard that made us all.
In "Weird," The Crimea presents a surreal and apocalyptic vision of the world. The song opens with the image of pterodactyls taking on a helicopter gunship, setting the tone for a clash between different time periods and perspectives. The chorus emphasizes the theme of two worlds colliding, with the moon exploding in a dark night. The verses are filled with striking imagery, such as a cave, a canyon, and a black hole, suggesting a sense of darkness and foreboding. The singer also mentions the difficulty of being weird in a world that doesn't understand, highlighting a sense of alienation and distance from mainstream society.
The second verse introduces a new set of surreal images, including Rapunzel receiving chemotherapy and a raging bull, further emphasizing the sense of chaos and confusion. The chorus repeats the idea that it's not easy being weird and that there's a sense of community with other "freaks" who feel similarly out of place in the world. The final bridge brings together a range of symbolic figures, including the ghost of Christmas past, the gods of war, and the "bastard" who made us all, suggesting a sense of blame and responsibility for the state of the world.
Overall, "Weird" presents a dreamlike and surreal interpretation of an apocalyptic scenario, emphasizing the sense of alienation and disconnection felt by those who don't fit into mainstream society.
