Mindbender
The Crucified Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A nation of millions
Of lost little sheep
The mass effects so many
Who believe all they see
The media's children
The people of sleep
Taught to rest in peace
By the whispers of deceit

led to believe
That they're still free to decide
Because the t.v. gave permission
On a program on rights
Fed only the candy
The part that they wanna hear
Slowly raped though they can only feel
The tickle in their ears

"close your eyes, release your mind."

consider yourselves my very one desire,
Consider yourselves my slaves
Consider yourselves at my fingertips,
In the palm of my hand, my slave."
To "leave your thinking to me..."

a nation of puppets
Who worship a beast

who drinks the blood of their souls
As they lay at its feet
If seeing is believeing
Then you can have your t.v. screen

I will worship a God
Who allows me to think

Overall Meaning

The Crucified's song "Mindbender" is a powerful commentary on the brainwashing and control that the media can have over the masses. The song starts by describing a nation of millions, but one that is made up of lost little sheep who have been led to believe all they see on their TV screens. The media's power is great, as they children of the media, people of sleep, are taught to rest in peace by whispers of deceit. They are fed only the candy, the part that they want to hear, and as a result, they are slowly but surely raped, though they can only feel the tickle in their ears. They are led to believe that they are still free to decide, but it is only because the TV has given them permission on a program about rights.

The second part of the song is a powerful indictment of both the media and its viewers. The central figure is a manipulator who considers the masses to be his slaves. He urges them to consider themselves at his fingertips, in the palm of his hand, and to leave their thinking to him. He is a beast, one who drinks the blood of their souls as they lay at his feet. The song exhorts listeners to reject the media's control and to seek out a God who allows them to think, rather than forcing them to believe whatever is presented on their TV screens.

Wow, i would've loved to have seen that show, so they are still touring, i got to look into them again. I forgot the name of the album diehard was on but that was my favorite. It had some serious metal tunes. The other stuff that was more punk was good too. I am really into a Christian metal band called Narnia now that is really good. Other than that i listen to all instrumental guitar virtouso's.
