Comin' Back
The Crystal Method Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The way my feelings roam
I've got to look outside again
And wonder where I've gone
I looked into someone's eyes again
And it's been all so long
I never wanted to talk again
You keep comin' back again
You keep comin' back some more
And then you come back and roam my mind
You try to make me look good
You know I just didn't have the time
I've never understood
The Crystal Method's song "Comin' Back" is a melancholic tune that speaks about a person's struggle to keep their emotions in check and maintain a sense of normalcy in their life. The lyrics start by highlighting the confusion that the singer feels about their feelings, indicating that they are having trouble understanding why they are feeling the way they are. The words "I know that I don't understand, the way my feelings roam" capture this feeling perfectly.
The song's chorus speaks about how someone or something from the singer's past keeps coming back into their life, disrupting their attempts to move on. The following verse continues the narrative, with the singer reflecting on someone they had met recently - "I looked into someone's eyes again / And it's been all so long / I never wanted to talk again / I tried to silence you." This could be interpreted as the singer's attempt to avoid getting involved with anyone new, knowing that it would only bring up the unresolved emotions that they are grappling with.
The song also touches on themes of regret and missed opportunities. The singer seems to feel like they have let someone down, indicating that they "just didn't have the time." They are unable to make sense of the other person's actions, indicating "You try to make me look good / You know I just didn't have the time / I've never understood."
Overall, "Comin' Back" is a poignant reflection on emotional turmoil and the difficulty of moving on from past regrets.

Still sounds like it's from the future... as opposed to the video, which is the most deliciously 2003 thing I've ever seen. (And that's still pretty good, actually, considering it's really from 1998.)
