Lil' Devil
The Cult Lyrics

Livin' in a shack in a one-horse town
Trying to get to heaven 'fore the sun goin' down
Lizard in a bottle, yeah
Dizzy in a haze for 40 days
Hey there, little devil
Come on little devil
Be my little angel
Come on little devil
Be my, yeah, angel, ow
Oh, she came on with an alligator smile
Dynamite lover, scorpion child
Trying to get to heaven 'fore the sun goes down, yeah
She came on with a cyclone kiss
Hey there baby, you don't never miss
Lizard in a bottle, oh yeah
Come on little devil
Be my little angel
Come on little devil
Be my little angel, angel
Come on little devil
Be my little angel
Come on little devil
Be my, oh be my, angel
The Cult's song "Lil' Devil" appears to be about a man who is living in a small and boring town and is trying to find some excitement in life by hooking up with a girl who is a bit of a wild child. The lyrics suggest that this girl is something of a temptress, with an "alligator smile" and a flirtatious personality that invites trouble. Yet, the man is drawn to her and wants her to be his "little angel", perhaps suggesting that he is looking for salvation or redemption in her. The use of animal imagery - the lizard in a bottle, the dynamite lover, and the scorpion child - adds a sense of danger and unpredictability to the song, as if the man is getting involved with someone who could prove to be his downfall.
The repeated refrain of "come on little devil, be my little angel" underscores the man's conflicted emotions - he sees this girl as both a source of temptation and a possible escape from the monotony of his life. The verses, which describe the man's desire to "get to heaven" before the sun goes down, also suggest that he is aware of his own mortality and is perhaps seeking a greater purpose or meaning in life. Overall, "Lil' Devil" is a catchy and upbeat rock song that captures the restlessness and longing for adventure that can sometimes afflict us all.

Underrated band. I don't understand how somebody can't love their sound...
@burnhappy
Underrated how? They were huge in the 80s
@shawnstarks1743
Underrated? Dude, they were all over MTV! 😂 And let’s not even talk about Sonic Temple Album. 3 videos were in heavy rotation from that Fire Woman, Edie, Sweet Soul Sister. Celebration Album? Wild Hearted Son and Heart n Soul. These guys were big. Now, we’re they as huge as Guns and Metallica? No. Should they have been? Maybe. However, they got their push. Hell, they were on Gone in 60 seconds soundtrack. Magazine covers etc.Even throughout the 90’s they did good. Ain’t nobody shedding any tears for them.
