Night
The DIs Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Take the ribbon from your hair
Shake it loose and let it fall
Layin' soft upon my skin
Like the shadows on the wall

Come and lay down by my side
Till the early mornin' light
All I'm takin' is your time
Help me make it through the night

I don't care who's right or wrong
I don't try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
Lord tonight I need a friend

Yesterday is dead and gone

And tomorrow's out of sight
And it's sad to be alone

Overall Meaning

The DIs's song Night depicts a sense of loneliness and the need for companionship. The opening lyrics, "Take the ribbon from your hair, Shake it loose and let it fall," sets the scene for an intimate encounter between the singer and the subject. The mention of the "shadows on the wall" reinforces the idea of the secrecy and vulnerability of the situation.

The singer then urges the subject to "come and lay down by my side." The use of the word "all" in the line "All I'm takin' is your time" conveys that the singer does not require anything else from the subject, but simply their presence. This again highlights the underlying theme of companionship and the need to drive away the feeling of loneliness.

The following lines "I don't care who's right or wrong, I don't try to understand, Let the devil take tomorrow, Lord tonight I need a friend" suggest that the singer is ready to let go of any discord that exists between them and the subject, and is solely focused on their present need for companionship. The song ultimately evokes a feeling of a lack of control over one's life, and the sense of emptiness that comes with it.

I enjoyed this show more than Harmonious (though I never saw that in person). However, Craig nailed it when he said the narration was telling me how to feel and I didn’t like that. I want to feel emotions organically. Illuminations was my all time favorite and it evoked emotion with a perfect mix of narration and original music. I miss it. I will give this show a chance in person and see how I feel. But the narration was forced and over the top for me.

Craig hit it home at the end. I’m very thankful that Disney is putting time and money into nighttime entertainment. So much of theme parks these days have just been about building new immersive lands and rides and steering away from shows and entrainment!

I really appreciate the positivity at the end and the show of gratitude. We need more of that on social media. Thanks to both of you.

Craig and Ryno looked so genuinely happy and smiling while sharing their comments. My impression is that Disney should rely more on “show” rather than “tell.” If the storytelling is good enough you don’t need a narrator to walk you through and explain everything. That narrator voice was off putting. Thank you for bring us a little Epcot today!

As usual, Craig and Ryno get the best shots! 👏🏽 Luminous looks amazing and I can’t wait to see it in person in April!

@jmagicfink

The pyro was perfectly timed and inventive. The show returns to before we relied on water screens and LED walls to drive the show. This is just pyro, lights and water and I love it! Great work Disney!

@amyrients

Love it! Illuminations will always be #1. This a great new show.

Epcot is my College Program park so it always has a special place in my heart. I worked as a vacation planner hearing that epic original theme all day. I was happy yesterday that this round of Epcot changes seems so much more Epcot. It feels like the park is back on track to something special again. The fireworks were much more illuminations and I appreciate that. I personally loved the narration throughout, the song mashups were interesting, the original songs are beautiful and some people do need to be told how to feel so they understand it ;)

I’m also a former EPCOT DCP CM (I was future world merch) and I feel the same way! Illuminations will forever have a special place in my heart but I really enjoyed this show and felt this show was much closer to Illuminations than Harmonious was (I hated Harmonious so that will influence my review). I’m a big fan of how the new sidewalk art is matching spaceship earth. I use to walk across the sidewalk art every shift so the original ones will always have a special place in my heart but this was a great upgrade
