(1) The Darling … Read Full Bio ↴There are two bands with the name The Darling Buds:
(1) The Darling Buds were an indie band from Caerleon near Newport, Wales. The band were formed in 1986 and took their name from a British novel called The Darling Buds of May.
(2) A British band, fronted by actor Jamie Campbell Bower whose music is Alternative Indie Rock.
(1) Influenced by the catchy simpler sound of the early Beatles, the band created very melodic hook driven short duration singles. They were considered part of the short lived "Blonde" movement(bands that were fronted by blondes with the band members dressed in black) along with the like of The Primitives but also referenced the C86 scene of a few years earlier.
Whilst the band were not hugely successful, they did manage to score a number of notable hits in their native UK and managed to release three full length albums as listed below:
Pop Said - Epic 1988
Crawdaddy - Epic 1990
Erotica - Epic 1992
They also released numerous 7" & 12" vinyl/cd singles. The release of their 1992 cd caused some minor controversy when it was released several months prior to Madonna's cd of the same title. For more information go to:

* Andrea Lewis - Vocals

* Chris McDonogh - Bass
* Blos - Drums (1986-1990)
* Jimmy Hughes - Drums (1990-1993)
(2) The Darling Buds featuring the British actor Jamie Campbell Bower have not been that popular, playing in a few gigs - this could be because Jamie Campbell Bower's acting career has set up with him appearing in major films like "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber On Fleet Street" and "The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones". They have release two known songs 'It's Amazing' and 'Alone Is No Together'.
Sure Thing
The Darling Buds Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
i'm reeling in your trust
for sure
well, hold on to this
you're beautiful to me
that i need
and give you
you mistreat me and you're kind
not something unique
shake the hurt and the lying out (of the whole world)
and shoot 'em in back (whole world)
you've fallen, sure thing
take a shot at nothing
this could be easier
but one thing's true for sure
i know
belong to me
throw back your covered wings
and i know
like i've always known
you're dying for some time
to kill
just anything
shake the hurt and the lying out (of the whole world)
and shoot 'em in back (whole world)
you've fallen, sure thing
have you given in
The lyrics of The Darling Buds's "Sure Thing" convey a sense of emotional turmoil and longing for connection. The first verse speaks to a feeling of uncertainty and vulnerability in a relationship, with the singer expressing a desire for trust and reassurance from their partner. The lines "you mistreat me and you're kind / and if that's not something unique" suggest a complex and perhaps conflicting dynamic between the two individuals involved.
The chorus is more confrontational in tone, with the lyrics encouraging the listener to "shake the hurt and the lying out" and to take action against those who have wronged them. The repeated phrase "you've fallen, sure thing" suggests a belief that the listener has experienced some kind of setback or defeat, but also acknowledges that this is a universal experience shared by all.
The second verse returns to themes of desire and possession, with the singer stating that the other person "belongs to me" and urging them to throw off their inhibitions and embrace their desires. The final lines, "you're dying for some time / to kill / just anything", suggest a potential darkness or intensity to the singer's feelings, and leave the listener with a sense of unease and uncertainty.

Anything at all
have you given in
Have you surrendered to your feelings for me?

This album is a lost pop masterpiece, and every bit as timeless and great today as it was on release.

I LOVED the Primitives, Voice of the Beehive, the Sundays but the Darling Buds are the best! Great to see this after only listening to my three albums on vinyl for the past 30 years!

Sweetie, a burst water pipe being farted out through a pressure cooker sounds bloody better. The music scene has been for shite for 4 decades now and only (generally) the 80s people can be relied upon. The best ones are still doing awesome music right now when they can, and the 80s had many of them at their best. The 80s was the only time when talent generally far outweighed the crap, though the crap and the overrated it must be said, are the only oned ever remembered and feted from that time of course!

Went from 4 piece to 5 piece at this point. each album got progressively 'denser' in sound. While I love all their albums, this is my favorite. Glad I caught them playing live twice back on Crawdaddy and Erotica tours.
