Sh-Boom
The Darts Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Life could be a dream
Life could be a dream
Boom ba-doh, ba-doo ba-doodle-ay (sh-boom)

Life could be a dream
If I could take you up in paradise up above (sh-boom)
If you would tell me I'm the only one that you love
Life could be a dream sweetheart
(Hello hello again, sh-boom and hopin' we'll meet again)
Boom ba-doh, ba-doo ba-doodle-ay (sh-boom)
Boom ba-doh, ba-doo ba-doodle-ay (sh-boom)

Oh, life could be a dream (sh-boom)
If only all my precious plans would come true (sh-boom)
If you would let me spend my whole life lovin' you
Life could be a dream sweetheart

Every time I look at you
Something is on my mind (dat-dat-dat-dat-dat-duh)
If you do what I want you to
Baby, we'd be so fine

Oh, life could be a dream (sh-boom)
If I could take you up in paradise up above (sh-boom)
If you would tell me I'm the only one that you love
Life could be a dream sweetheart

(Hello hello again, sh-boom and hopin' we'll meet again) boom sh-boom
Hey nonny ding dong, alang alang alang (sh-boom)
Ba-doh, ba-doo ba-doodle-ay
Life could be a dream
Life could be a dream, sweetheart

Overall Meaning

The Darts' song Sh-Boom describes a dream-like state in which life could be a happy and perfect existence, but only if the singer is with the one they love. The repetition of "life could be a dream" emphasizes the idea that this is an unattainable ideal state, but one that the singer is yearning for. The "sh-boom" refrain is a nonsensical yet catchy sound that adds to the upbeat and playful nature of the song.

Throughout the lyrics, there is a sense of optimism and hopefulness that is expressed through the desire to be with the one they love. The lines "If you would let me spend my whole life lovin' you" and "If you do what I want you to, baby, we'd be so fine" show the willingness to sacrifice and do whatever it takes to achieve this dream-like state. The overall tone of the song is one of joy and comfort, offering a pleasant escape from the hardships of reality.

Jeez, this brought back some memories! I saw this band about 4 times - when I was still young and impressionable - and I still think the Darts cover is the best version of this classic. Thanks for uploading.

I've got my tickets for The 100 Club, London (Sat 12 July) gig already. Last years gigs were ALL sold out so don't delay! I can't wait. Darts were out of this world - completely blew me away! I saw them so many times in the 70's & 80's and 30 yrs on they R as great as they ever were... sound awsome, full of energy and Den is still as scary! If you miss them at The 100 Club then catch them the following day at The Americna Festival - Darts are closing the show! see... 'amazingdarts' 4 more info

Wow! Where on earth did you get this from?! I thought I'd seen most of the old Darts videos and clips but I've never seen this! Brilliant - you have made my day! Thank you soooooo much for sharing!

@forestsoceansmusic

Great voice, but this arrangement doesn't beat the original, which was WAY smoother and cooler.
