Take the
The Dave Brubeck Quartet Lyrics
Won't you stop and take
A little time out with me
Just take five
Stop your busy day
And take the time out
To see if I'm alive
Though I'm going out of my way
Just so I can pass by each day
Not a single word do we say
Still, I know our eyes often meet
I feel tingles down to my feet
When you smile, that's much too discreet
Sends me on my way
Wouldn't it be better
Not to be so polite
You could offer a light
Start a little conversation now
It's alright, just take five
Just take five
Though I'm going out of my way
Just so I can pass by each day
Not a single word do we say
It's a pantomime and not a play
Still, I know our eyes often meet
I feel tingles down to my feet
When you smile, that's much too discreet
Sends me on my way
Wouldn't it be better
Not to be so polite
You could offer a light
Start a little conversation now
It's alright, just take five
Just take five

The Dave Brubeck Quartet was an American modern jazz group formed in San Francisco in 1951 by jazz pianist Dave Brubeck (1920-2012). In what became known as the band's classic line-up, the band featured Joe Morello (1928–2011) on drums, Eugene Wright on bass, and Paul Desmond (1924-1977) on saxophone. The band remains best-known for their use of odd time signatures, and were a premier group in the cool jazz movement. They produced several standards, including Take Five and Blue Rondo à la Turk. dislikes are from people that play in 4/4

@Marty G Hi Marty - The first part - (before eventually going int 4/4) is as another contributor - njorogemaina
states: 9/8 - grouped as 2 -2- 2- 3. (The 8 just tells you which note value is used for each of the 9 pulses or "little" beats. (9/8 is generally 3 triplet beats; Dave Brubeck`s grouping brings out an interesting - uneven time pattern. Holst, for example used 7/8 in his "Perfect Fool" work for orchestra.

Lars Ulrich and Phil Rudd were the first to dislike.

I love this album. Dave Brubeck was introduced to me by my mother (RIP). The first jazz that I really appreciated was Brubeck and I was about 8 years old. I bought this album when I was in high school back in the early 70's. I grew up on Dave Brubeck, Stan Getz, Charlie Parker, Thelonius Monk, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, McCoy Tyner, Ahmad Jamal, Stanley Turrentine, Chick Corea, and too many others to mention. I am so grateful to my mom for turning me on to great jazz!
