In what became known as the band's classic line-up, the band featured Joe Morello (1928–2011) on drums, Eugene Wright (1923-2020) on bass, and Paul Desmond (1924-1977) on saxophone. The band remains best-known for their use of odd time signatures, and were a premier group in the cool jazz movement. They produced several standards, including Take Five and Blue Rondo à la Turk.
Throughout the years, and changing line-ups, the group maintained a strong fan-base among jazz fans of all ages.

I'm glad the videographer gave ample time to Joe Morello's work here. He drove this music in such a effective way, never calling attention to himself, but this piece is all the more exciting for his artistry.

The original is nice, also. During Desmond's solo, Dave looked as if he heard something he had never heard before. This is the mark of a good musician, when other musicians respect what you do. Good tune, good musicians, well executed!!

Yes, Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond were a match made in heaven....

My word, indeed.

Joe Morello on a back line kit or, very possibly, the kit of one of the other drummers at the concert. As usual, he makes the kit sound just like his own Ludwig Super Classic. A great rendition of this chart.
