Everybody Get Together
The Dave Clark Five Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Love is but a song to sing
Feels the way we''ll die
You can make the mountains ring
Or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
And you may know not why

Oh! Come on you people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Come on you people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now

Some may come and some may go
He will surely pass
When the one that let us heal
Returns for us at last
We are but in the morning sunlight
Fading in the grass

Oh! Come on you people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Yes! Come on you people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now

Come on you people now
Smile on your brother

Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now

Overall Meaning

The song Everybody Get Together by The Dave Clark Five spreads the message of unity, love, and peace. The opening lines of the song, "Love is but a song to sing, / Feels the way we'll die", tell us that love is the essence of life and it is something we all need to feel alive. The lines "You can make the mountains ring, / Or make the angels cry" suggest that love is a powerful force that can move mountains and touch hearts. The lyrics also talk about the mystery of life where "the bird is on the wing" and we may not always understand why certain things happen.

The chorus of the song, "Come on you people now, / Smile on your brother, / Everybody get together, / Try to love one another right now", encourages people to unite and spread love all around. The repetition of the lines "Smile on your brother" and "Everybody get together" emphasize the need for coming together and creating a harmonious world.

The following verses express the idea that life is fleeting and we should cherish every moment that we have with our loved ones. The lines "Some may come and some may go, / He will surely pass" remind us that death is inevitable but the love we share with others will remain forever. The verse "When the one that let us heal, / Returns for us at last" speaks about the concept of afterlife where we may reunite with our loved ones once again. The final lines of the song "We are but in the morning sunlight, / Fading in the grass" suggest that life is like a fleeting moment and we should live in the present and make the most of it.

LYRICS:
Love is but a song to sing
Fear's the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
Or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
And you may not know why

REFRAIN: Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now

Some may come and some may go
We shall surely pass
When the one that left us here
Returns for us at last
We are but a moment's sunlight
Fading in the grass
REFRAIN

If you hear the song I sing
You will understand (listen!)
You hold the key to love and fear
All in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
It's there at your command
REFRAIN

I remember this being played on duke boxes in the pubs around Reigate and Redhill. It was always around chucking out time it would start playing, if not ealier in the evening. By that time, everyone was drunk enough to sing a long, clap to it and drive the landlords mad. Those were the days, many thanks for posting :-)

Mike Smith what a voice, R.I.P

@Drummed

We shouldn't label Mike to 'Rest' In Peace' but to have him ' Rejoice' In Peace.
