Lemonade
The Dead Deads Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've got a broken heart
I don't know where to start
It all keeps crumbling down
You gave me a lemon tree
Now I'm swinging in the breeze
Hanging from your bough
Lemonade... Lemonade... Gotta do something with this pain.
I'm not pissing in the wind
If I kiss that face again
May lightning strike me dead
But I'd just come back to life
End up your zombie wife
Drinking that sweet and sour spit
It goes on and on... it NEVER ENDS!
Lemonade... Lemonade... Gotta do something with this pain.
It's just so awful sweet
I take it to the teeth
and let it rot my brain
And every time we meet
you sing that melody
I hear that sweet sad sick refrain
and I'm climbing up your tree again
Lemonade... Lemonade... Gotta do something with this pain.
The Dead Deads' "Lemonade" is a song about heartbreak, with lyrics that convey a sense of frustration, desperation, and bitterness. The singer has been hurt and is struggling to cope with the pain. They feel like their world is falling apart, and they don't know how to fix it.
The metaphor of a lemon tree is used to represent the relationship that has gone sour. The singer was given a gift, but it turned out to be a burden. They're left hanging from a branch, swinging in the breeze, helpless and alone. The situation is frustrating, and the singer is searching for a way to deal with the pain. They say that they need to make lemonade out of the lemons they've been given, but it's easier said than done.
The chorus repeats the phrase "Lemonade... Lemonade... Gotta do something with this pain," emphasizing the need to find a way to move on from the hurt. However, the succeeding verses show that it's not a simple process. The singer is torn between their feelings and their better judgment. They're afraid to kiss that face again, but the thought of being a "zombie wife" is even worse. They describe the taste of the bitter drink as "awful sweet," and it's slowly rotting their brain. Yet, they're unable to resist the pull of the other person, and they find themselves climbing up their tree again.
Overall, "Lemonade" is a compelling and emotional song that captures the struggle of coping with heartbreak. It's a reminder that moving on is difficult, but necessary.

I've got a broken heart
My heart is broken
I don't know where to start
I'm unsure of what to do
It all keeps crumbling down
Everything falls apart
You gave me a lemon tree
You gave me something useless
Now I'm swinging in the breeze
I'm hanging on for dear life
Hanging from your bough
Hanging on to someone else's hope
Lemonade... Lemonade... Gotta do something with this pain.
I need to find a way to move on
I'm not pissing in the wind
I'm not wasting my time
If I kiss that face again
If I give it another shot
May lightning strike me dead
Maybe it's better if I die
But I'd just come back to life
But I'll just keep coming back
End up your zombie wife
I'll become your slave
Drinking that sweet and sour spit
Accepting both the good and the bad
It goes on and on... it NEVER ENDS!
This never stops
It's just so awful sweet
It's all so bittersweet
I take it to the teeth
I face it head-on
And let it rot my brain
And let it consume me
And every time we meet
Every time we see each other
You sing that melody
You remind me of the past
I hear that sweet sad sick refrain
I feel both happiness and sadness
And I'm climbing up your tree again
And I'm hanging on to hope again
Lemonade... Lemonade... Gotta do something with this pain.
I need to find a way to move on

Saw them at the house of blues in Orlando last night. Thought they did a great job. Lots of energy and very polished. They have a chance to go places. The blonde guitarist is amazing.

I also saw The Dead Deads when they opened for Halestorm. I did not think they were bad. Not really my type of music, but its awesome what they are doing. This is the only song that I really do like. Either way, I will definitely continue to support them and hope one day they really do get famous!
