All members of the band are from other, well known alternative rock groups. Mosshart is a member of The Kills, Fertita is a member of Queens of the Stone Age, Lawrence is a member of The Greenhornes and The Raconteurs and White was a member of The White Stripes and The Raconteurs.
White produced their album, Horehound, which was released in the US on July 14th 2009. The album was recorded in three weeks at White's own Third Man Studio in Nashville. This group sparks particular interest because Jack White, well known for guitar skills, played drums with this band.. White’s last booking as a drummer was with the Detroit punk outfit Goober and the Peas, aged 19.

The Dead Weather's song "I'm Mad" is an outburst of frustration and anger towards someone who seems to have gotten under the singer's skin. The repetition of the phrase "I'm mad" throughout the song portrays just how consumed the singer is by their emotions, which range from anger to obsession. The use of "ha ha" after each repetition adds an eerie twist to the song, as if the singer is on the verge of madness.
The song's lyrics also depict the idea of the singer being "mad on" the person who is causing them to feel this way. It's unclear whether this person reciprocates the feelings or not, but the singer is clearly bothered by their presence in their mind and heart. The reference to finding dice along the road and showing them off hints at a possible gambling problem or addiction, which could be exacerbating their overall mental state.
Overall, the song is a dark and intense representation of the singer's emotional state, highlighting the unhealthy fixation they have on someone who is causing them great distress.
