The Departure is composed of David Jones (lead vocals), Sam Harvey (lead guitar),Ben Winton (bass guitar) and Simon Alexander (drums). These four unique individuals channel their passion, drive, and intelligence to churn the creative fires within, resulting in an indelible impression on all who encounter their sound. Imagine an 80’s sound with a twist, thumping bass lines, well placed lyrics and drum beats, which all comes together to form one driving force. Musical influences range from The Chameleons & Bowie, to Kate Bush & Blur.
The Departure has been touring extensively since 2004, and has recently finished their own tour and supporting We Are Scientists.
They are currently putting the finishing touches to their much anticipated second album entitled inventions, which is to be released early 2008. However, rumors say the band has split due to label issue

She knows that she looks okay
She needs nothing
But she wants it all tonight
She talks to me
From what I can hear
She's got no personality
For a ride
Our conversation twists
Is this all there is to keep me alive?
She's turning it on, yeah
She's turning it on
It's all talk, it's all talk
She's turning it on, yeah
She's turning it on
This is out talkshow
Talk to me
Take me through the motions
You got your mind
Your mind set on it
You talk to me
You're testing my patience
With your personality
You take pictures of me
As I walk down the hall
You take a picture of me
Is this all there is to keep me alive?
You're turning it on, yeah
You're turning it on
It's all talk, it's all talk
You're turning it on, yeah
You're turning it on
This is our talkshow (x2)
It's all talk, it's all talk, it's all talk
This is our talkshow
It's all talk, it's all talk, it's all talk
This is our talkshow
It's all talk, yeah
It's all talk, yeah
You're all talk
This is our talkshow (x2)
This is our talkshow
This is our talkshow
You're turning it on, yeah
You're turning it on
You're turning it on, yeah
You're turning it on
You're turning it on, yeah (x8)
Talk to me
The Departure's song "Talkshow" is a commentary on the superficiality of modern-day conversations and relationships. The singer, who is likely a media personality or a celebrity, is engaged in a conversation with a woman who is more interested in the idea of him and what he represents rather than genuinely getting to know him. As the woman talks, it becomes apparent that she is adept at maintaining a facade of interest without any real substance. In the chorus, the singer notes that she is "turning it on," meaning that she is performing a show rather than having a genuine interaction.
Throughout the song, the singer challenges the woman's facade, expressing his annoyance and boredom with the situation. He recognizes that she is superficial and has no real personality. The woman is more interested in taking pictures of the singer than actually engaging with him. The singer is left feeling unfulfilled and wondering if there is more to life than these empty interactions.
Overall, "Talkshow" is a critical commentary on our current culture where appearances and social media presence are valued more than genuine connections and relationships. It is a plea to move beyond the superficiality and embrace deeper, more meaningful conversations and connections.

Saw them when they supported Bloc Party. Should have been the other way round! They had (and still have) a unique sound and style. Quite refreshing at the time really.
