Christ or Cocaine
The Devil's Blood Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hedonistic fire in the dead of night
I gave my soul away
I've been stripped of all but lust
And I've seen Hell today

It had a toilet seat and a lock on the door
And it made me feel okay
I know they had it in for me
But I love their sweet decay

I see a tunnel at the end of the light
And it's driving me insane
Just tell me If I'm wrong or I'm right
And if it's Christ or cocaine

The lies we tell to secure our fate
Are never far behind us
The things we say and the things we do
Will in the end blind us

Do you think you're a sinner or a saint?
Do you even think you could see?

Or would you rather step into my church
And go to Hell with me

Overall Meaning

The song "Christ or Cocaine" by The Devil's Blood is a tale of a hedonistic lifestyle and the consequences that come with it. The lyrics describe how the singer has given away his soul to pleasure and lust, and how his actions have led him to see Hell. He has lost everything except his desire for pleasure and the comfort he finds in drugs. The toilet seat with a lock on the door could be a metaphor for a drug den or a place where he indulges in his vices without any interruptions. The tunnel at the end of the light may represent his impending doom or punishment for his sins. The singer seems lost and unsure of whether his lifestyle is worth it, as he asks whether it's Christ or cocaine that is driving him to the brink of insanity.

The song also touches upon the idea that the lies we tell ourselves and others will eventually catch up to us. The singer questions whether he is a sinner or a saint and invites the listener to join him in his hellish existence. The Devil's Blood often includes religious references and themes in their music, and "Christ or Cocaine" is no exception. The song poses a moral dilemma, whether to choose the path of righteousness or continue indulging in vice.

Saw them live with Watain. They absolutely killed it and ended it with this song.

Rik Bugez

I bet that was a legendary show. So jealous 🖤

EA1379

Saw them with Watain in Hollywood. It was legendary. The only US tour, sadly.

@EA1379 same here, I was at that same show haha, drove down from Santa Barbara.
Ironically I made sure to see them since I barely caught dissections last tour before he offed himself, didn't want to miss the chance and the same thing happened after
Watain is legendary of course, waters of ain live is transcendental
But it was still so rad to see tdb live, they were one of a kind
Some people there seemed confused by them, even though they're more similar to Watain and black metal than rock haha

Good times bud.

I saw them on the strip as well…I think that was the Decibel tour that year…I got to talk w/the lead singer and tell her how beautiful she and her music was…such a nice genuine lady…love the pigs blood and throwback yet metal style some of these bands from Europe came forward with…
