1. The Diamonds (Canada). The original vocal quartet consisted of Dave Somerville, Phil Levitt, Ted Kowalski, and Bill Reed. When Kowalski and Reed left they were replaced by Californians John Felton and Evan Fischer.
In the beginning the group practiced several types of vocal styles, including four part "barber style" harmony. The Diamonds began their singing in local clubs, school functions, church socials, and anywhere they could find an audience.
They came to the attention of Coral Records, a subsidiary of Decca Records, where they covered two records, Black Denim Trousers and Motorcycle Boots ( a hit for the Cheers) b\w "Nip Sip" (a Clovers song) during the summer of 1955. Neither sold well enough to convince Coral to retain them. However, Bill Randle, an influential Cleveland deejay, liked them enough to mention their name to an executive at Mercury Records. the Diamonds signed with one of the labels that developed the market for "covers."
The Diamonds decision to cover rhythm and blues artist was the result of economic reality: cover records sold very well in markets where the original versions wouldn't be acceptable. Among their hits in 1956 were "Why Do Fools Fall In Love," "Church Bells May Ring," "Love, Love, Love" and "Ka-King-Dong," originally recorded by the Teenagers, the Willows, the Clovers, and the G-Clefs, respectively.
After their run with success in the 50s and 60s they continued performing till the present day.

A Beggar for Your Kisses
The Diamonds Lyrics

and all I'm waiting for,
Is just a little sympathy,
I'm just a beggar for your kisses
A beggar for your kisses,
Can't you spare a little love for me?
My heart is patched and torn,
My pride's a little worn,
I'm just a beggar for your kisses.
A beggar for your kisses,
Can't you spare a little love for me?
Now, I don't ask for all of your love,
A little, insignificant bit would do,
For it would mean so much to me,
Although I know, it means nothing to you.
You have so much to give,
And I don't need much to live,
Do it just for charity,
I'm just a beggar for your kisses.
A beggar for your kisses,
Can't you spare a little love for me?
The Diamond's hit song "A Beggar for Your Kisses" is an emotional plea for love from one person to another. The singer, who is standing outside the door of their desired one, is asking for just a little sympathy, a little tenderness, and a little love. The lyrics perfectly capture the feeling of helplessness and heartache that often comes with unrequited love.
The song starts with the singer standing outside the door, waiting for some sympathy. The lyrics present the singer as a beggar for the other person's kisses, portraying an image of vulnerability and desperation. The singer expresses their willingness to settle for even a small amount of love, explaining that their heart is patched and torn, and their pride is a little worn. The singer explicitly mentions the other person's generosity, presenting them as the one in power in the relationship. The chorus repeats the title of the song, emphasizing the singer's desperation for affection from this one person.
The second verse starts with the singer expressing their modest needs and highlighting the disparity between the two individuals. Despite the other person having so much to give, the singer only needs a little to live. The singer asks for charity, portraying their love as something that needs to be donated. They reiterate their position as a beggar for the other person's kisses, hoping for some tenderness, even if it means nothing to the other person.
Overall, "A Beggar for Your Kisses" by The Diamonds is a heartfelt ode to unrequited love. The poignant lyrics and emotional delivery make this song a classic of its time.
