One of the defining elements of the Diplomats' music is the innovative slang they have incorporated into their lyrics. The broader hip-hop community has accepted and utilized many of their terms, including "doggie,", "no homo", "piff," "huff," "u mad?", "move the movement", "off' wit' Ya' Kufi Smacker", "goonies goo goo,", "duck tales", "family matters", and "coochie rap". They also coined the greeting, "What's Really Good?". Many of the rappers were signed, and were premiered in mixtapes, but the Diplomats did not become exclusive until 2003 with their cd Diplomatic Immunity. In previous music videos when Cam'ron was starting his career you could see fellow diplomats like Jim Jones or Freeky Zeeky. The Diplomats have also gained notable street credability through their mixtapes, especially in New York, and have made a small fortune through mixtape sales. The Diplomats' song "What Kind of Life is This" expresses the pain and confusion of a man who has lost his lover. The lyrics show how much he misses her and how much their relationship meant to him. The chorus indicates that the man cannot believe that this is happening to him as he feels like crying some more. In the first verse, he describes the pleasures they shared when they were together, such as having the best sex in the back seat of a car with her feet up on the headrest. He talks about how she was his down chick, an intelligent law school attendee who attracted envy from other men. However, she is now gone, and he can't understand why she left.
In the second verse, Juelz Santana joins in and echoes the same sentiment. He wonders where his love has gone and reminisces about the past. He wants her back and is willing to anything to get her. He talks about how much he loves her and how he would run a hundred miles for her. He also talks about changing and rearranging things to make their relationship work again. The song ends with the chorus, indicating that the man still cannot believe his lover's departure.
