Brody announced the emergence of Spinnerette, a semi-solo project in March 2007. She stated in an interview that, "Spinnerette isn't a band, it's me and whichever musicians I want to work with at the time." Spinnerette released a digital EP called Ghetto Love, via their Official Website on December 11th, 2008. On June 9th, 2009 the band made their entire debut album available for listening on their MySpace page. The album, Spinnerette, was released in the UK on June 15th, 2009. The first single was Baptized By Fire.

The Distillers' song Black Heart is a powerful and deeply emotional track that speaks to the struggles of addiction and the toll it takes on personal relationships. The lyrics "the one time you lied, you were high, so high" reveal the betrayal of trust that can occur between individuals struggling with addiction. The singer speaks to the pain and frustration of seeing the one she loves walking "black lines" and being consumed by their addiction.
Throughout the song, the lyrics "hey clean your mess, hey you're a mess" speak to the chaos and destruction left in the wake of addiction. The singer feels helpless as she watches the person she loves spiral out of control and is frustrated by the fact that she too has lied "all the time" to try and make things work.
The final line of the song, "fuck," is a powerful and poignant declaration of the intense emotions that come with addiction. It's frustrating, heartbreaking, and all-consuming. The Distillers masterfully capture the raw and painful experience of loving someone struggling with addiction in this deeply moving track.
