1. The Dodos are an indie folk band from San Francisco, CA, United States, formed in 2005. Almost all of their albums (except the very first one) are credited to Dodos (without 'The'), but they made their recording début as The Dodos and are listed as such on streaming platforms, which is why most of their scrobbles end up here. The Dodos is the preferred spelling. The band has two core members: Meric Long (vocals, guitar) and Logan Kroeber (drums). They have released eight studio albums since mid-2006: Beware of the Maniacs (2006), Visiter (2008), Time to Die (2009), No Color (2011), Carrier (2013), Individ (2015), Certainty Waves (2018) and Grizzly Peak (2021).
2. Having evolved in late 1979 out of Swansea punk band The Urge, The Dodos were named after the ephedrine-laced asthma tablets, consisting of Dickie Evans (vocals), Phil Roberts (guitar), Anthony Reed (bass) and Steve 'Gagsy' Garland (drums). They contributed a song (1981's 'Blind To Fiction') to a rare compilation called Sex, Violence and the Eternal Truth.
3. The Dodos were a very short-lived British rock band of the late 1960s. They released just one single: 'I Made Up My Mind' b/w 'Can't Make It Out' (Polydor, 1967). Both sides were penned by the band's main songwriter, Alan Hawkshaw.

I've played the part of cool, that's what I sell you
I listen good, I listen well
You're old and you have much to tell
So come out of your quiet spell
I've heard her scream, I know she yells
So while she's gone I'll entertain you
There's not a lot that I could write about you
Your name is Bob, you smoke a pipe
That's what it amounts to
But we're the same
We all want peace
We're victims of the same disease
You deal with her, I'll deal with these
You sit and stare off into space
You've got much more to think than say
I know you won't
But you want to
You spend your time, you spend my life
Stuck in your room
I take it hard because I tried
To get you out to
To have a stroll, to have a talk
About your world, about the laws
That keep you stuck, that keep you locked
I know it's hard for you to change
Before we part our separate ways
You need to know
I understand you
The song "Bob" by The Dodos speaks of two people coming together and sharing their stories. The singer starts off by acknowledging that they have a lot to prove, admitting that they've played the part of cool, but now they mean to tell the other person about themselves. The singer shows that they are a good listener, acknowledging that the other person is old and has much to tell. They invite the other person to come out of their quiet spell and share with them.
The singer then talks about a woman who screams and yells, and how they will entertain the other person while she is gone. The song then moves on to Bob, a man who smokes a pipe and stares off into space. The singer acknowledges that there's not a lot that they can write about Bob, but they are still the same. They all want peace and are victims of the same disease. The singer wants to have a conversation with Bob about his world and the laws that keep him stuck and locked in his room. Despite the difficulties in changing, the singer wants Bob to know that they understand him.
