1. The Dodos are an indie folk band from San Francisco, CA, United States, formed in 2005. Almost all of their albums (except the very first one) are credited to Dodos (without 'The'), but they made their recording début as The Dodos and are listed as such on streaming platforms, which is why most of their scrobbles end up here. The Dodos is the preferred spelling. The band has two core members: Meric Long (vocals, guitar) and Logan Kroeber (drums). They have released eight studio albums since mid-2006: Beware of the Maniacs (2006), Visiter (2008), Time to Die (2009), No Color (2011), Carrier (2013), Individ (2015), Certainty Waves (2018) and Grizzly Peak (2021).
2. Having evolved in late 1979 out of Swansea punk band The Urge, The Dodos were named after the ephedrine-laced asthma tablets, consisting of Dickie Evans (vocals), Phil Roberts (guitar), Anthony Reed (bass) and Steve 'Gagsy' Garland (drums). They contributed a song (1981's 'Blind To Fiction') to a rare compilation called Sex, Violence and the Eternal Truth.
3. The Dodos were a very short-lived British rock band of the late 1960s. They released just one single: 'I Made Up My Mind' b/w 'Can't Make It Out' (Polydor, 1967). Both sides were penned by the band's main songwriter, Alan Hawkshaw.

The Dodos Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
we never know what's coming next
i have no clue, i just continue
and gather scenes for my next guess
in from the rues, an artifice
to place an installation now
you define then torn apart
the recognizable shapes froms its space when it
starts!
we waited for this day to come
and now it's here so we can leave when we cannot
you know it just because
that speech you wrote, you won't give up
so stand beside insidious ones
with conquered eyes, the things that they're living on
suicide, your repertoire
they criticize us, to create this relation to
us!
go!
you're a fiend!
go!
you old fiend!
move on
move on
The Dodos's song Longform talks about the unpredictability of life and the art of creating something without knowing what will happen next. The song starts with the repetition of "ba ba ba ba," which gives the impression that the lead singer is lost in thought and doesn't have any exact words to describe his feelings about the situation he is facing. He seems to be confused and unsure about what is going to happen next but he is still continuing, gathering scenes for his next guess. He is trying to put up an installation for people to see and think about their interpretation of it. The recognizable shapes from this installation space start to define themselves when it starts.
The song then talks about how they have waited for this day to come, and now that it's here, they can leave when they cannot. They have a speech that they wrote, and they won't give up on it. The lead singer thinks that it's time to stand beside insidious ones with conquered eyes, the things that they're living on. He thinks that this is their repertoire, and they are criticized to create this relation to us. The lyrics seem disconnected at times, but they all circle back to the theme of life's unpredictability and how we can create something without knowing what will happen next.

I only recently rediscovered how much I loved this album. Front to back it’s really good. Too bad they left the breakdown out of this video- it’s a strong moment early on the album imo
