Little Wing
The Dominos Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running 'round.
Butterflies and zebras, fairy tales,
That's all she ever thinks about.

When I'm sad she comes to me
With a thousand smiles she gives to me free.
Said, "It's all right, take anything you want,
Anything you want, anything."

Well she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running 'round.
Butterflies and zebras, fairy tales,
That's all she ever thinks about.

When I'm sad she comes to me
With a thousand smiles she gives to me free.
Said, "It's all right, take anything you want,
Anything you want, anything."

Fly on, little wing.

Overall Meaning

The Dominos’s song “Little Wing” is a tribute to a free-spirited woman who lives in a world of her own imagination. The lyrics describe this woman as “walking through the clouds with a circus mind that’s running ‘round.” She is constantly surrounded by butterflies and zebras, and fairy tales consume her thoughts. The singer then goes on to describe how this woman, who appears to be his friend, comes to him when he’s feeling down and shares a thousand smiles with him for free. She reassures him that it’s all right and that he can have anything he wants.

The song has a dreamy and whimsical feel to it, and the lyrics paint a picture of someone who is not just different but magical. The singer’s admiration for this woman is palpable. He refers to her as “little wing” and urges her to fly on, perhaps to continue to spread her joy and optimism wherever she goes.

Overall, the song seems to be an ode to the power of imagination, the comfort of friendship, and the freedom to be oneself. It’s a beautiful and ethereal piece of music that captures the imagination and transports the listener to a world where anything is possible.

Crying guitars ... An ode to Hendrix... What a great LP... I bought it in 1970, the same year I saw the Allman Brothers with brother Duane... Music this good never grows old...

skydog and clapton wailing matchless , and bobby whitlock's backup vocals make it all-time

I got a vinyl copy of Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs as one of my 18th birthday gifts from my parents on 1/21/1971. They asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and Layla was my only request.

Credit to Jimi Hendrix for this wonderful composition!
I have heard this song done so many ways and it has always been great whether it is electric, acoustic, or in this case Clapton and Duane Allman. I just wish they included the guitar intro on this version..

Eric and Bobby's vocals....incredible

@LeeEisenstein

Absolutely. Bobby's accompanying vocals blew me away from the first time I heard this. To my ears, he was a huge part of their sound, especially the back and forth he and Eric did.
