Love Of My LIfe
The Dooleys Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Darling when
You touch my hand
Who needs words to understand
'Cos my love
My eyes convey
Everything
I want to say
Ooh you mean more than life to me
There's no place I'd rather be
Darling say you'll
You'll always stay by my side

Oh love of my life
My sweetness and light
You are all I need
As years come and go
The closer we'll grow
'Cos you'll always be
The love of my life

Every time
You hold me tight
Girl you know it feels so right
Never felt like this before
Now like a child
I beg for more

Oh love is tender
Love is strong
Without love I can't go on
Darling say you'll
You'll always stay by my side

Oh love of my life
My sweetness and light
You are all I need
As years come and go
The closer we'll grow
'Cos you'll always be
The love of my life

As years come and go
The closer we'll grow
'Cos you'll always be
The love of my life
Yes you'll always be
The love of my life
The love of my life

(You'll always be)
(the love of my life)

Overall Meaning

The Dooleys's song Love of My Life conveys a message of passionate love that is everlasting. The lyrics illustrate a deep connection between two people that doesn't need words to express their love since it is communicated through their eyes and touch. The singer's love is all-consuming, and they express that the person they love means more to them than anything else in the world; they couldn't imagine being anywhere else that's not by their side. The lyrics also mention that without love, the singer can't go on, portraying how love is a crucial component that's necessary to live.

The lyrics resemble the typical power ballad of the 70s, where the message is about a deep and committed love exchanged between two people. The melody has a mid-tempo beat, and the keyboard and synthesizer on the instrumentation add a sentimental feel to the song. The vocal performances of the Dooleys, particularly the lead singer's, are passionate and soulful, where each word is enunciated clearly, adding depth to the lyrics.

I used to love listening to the Dooleys back in the 70s. Still love their songs today!

It might be difficult to find a better 70s pop song than this. Still goes under the radar for some strange reason.

Agreed, it's a superb pop song, so catchy ..... the Dooleys just had the knack of producing pop hits ... they were really popular back then, and a big player in the music charts.

As a young guy in the 1970’s it wasn’t easy to tell the ladies that you actually liked the Dooley’s and as a working DJ in Maggie Disco in my hometown of Dunfermline in Fife Scotland it was a very special time, but you just can’t help but admire the Dooley’s musical ability and harmonies long live the 1970’s.
