Your hands upon the wheel
Keep your eyes on the road
Your hands upon the wheel
Yeah, we're going to the roadhouse,
Gonna have a real good-time
Yeah, the back of the roadhouse,
Yeah, the back of the roadhouse,
They've got some bungalows
They dance for the people
Who like to go down slow
Let it roll, baby, roll
Let it roll, baby, roll
Let it roll, baby, roll
Let it roll, all night long
Do it, Robby, do it!
You gotta roll, roll, roll,
You gotta thrill my soul, alright
Roll, roll, roll, roll-a
Thrill my soul, yeah right
Ashen lady
Ashen lady
Give up your vows
Give up your vows
Save our city
Save our city
Ah, right now
Well, I woke up this morning
And I got myself a beer
Well, I woke up this morning
And I got myself a beer
The future's uncertain
And the end is always near
Let it roll, baby, roll
Let it roll, baby, roll
Let it roll, baby, roll
Let it roll, all night long
The Doors' song "Light My Fire" is a bold statement of the counterculture movement of the late 1960s. The song was written by Robbie Krieger and sung by Jim Morrison. The song became one of the most famous rock anthems of that decade due to its psychedelic sound and mystical lyrics. The lyrics open with a call to keep eyes on the road and hands upon the wheel, suggesting that the journey is the most vital aspect of life, and one must steer through it with caution. The band then sings of going to the roadhouse, where they will have a real good time.
The "bungalows" in the back of the roadhouse are where the ladies will dance, and people who like to go down slow would watch them. Morrison switches to a more provocative, sexual tone with his interpretation of "rolling" - a term often used by blues musicians to describe sexual intercourse. "Ashen lady" likely refers to the idea of a ghost or spiritual entity, urging it to "give up your vows" to join the rebellion, challenging the conventional structures of society. The verse “the future’s uncertain, and the end is always near” reinforces this idea, emphasizing the impact of existentialism in societal constructs.
Finally, the lyrics close by talking of the uncertainty of life with the impending end, suggesting that the journey must continue, and the celebration of life must be enjoyed to the fullest. The song ends with the repeated line of "let it roll, baby, roll" and further calls for the guitarist Robby Krieger to play his solo.

You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn't get much higher
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire
The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire, yeah
The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire, yeah

Great to hear the ORIGINAL instrumental tracks together. Sounds just as fresh today as it did 53 years ago.

that part from 00:00 until 6:53 is AMAZING|

Do I hear an encore? YES! Everyone's Fire was lit by this remarkable, exciting, incredibly arousing (in any meaning you want to give it) song, or instrumental version!
Gerry Kirstein
One of the greatest instrumental takes ever performed in the studio in the history of rock and roll. We'll never hear another song quite so pure and uniquely performed like this for many years to come.
Mike Abel
Done in 1 or 2 takes, as well.

Light years ahead of The Beatles

Gerry, I'm still waiting for that year to come, after I first heard this BOMBSHELL explode on the radio airwaves in June 1967!!! It climbed to its eventual #1 for 3 consecutive weeks (Jul. 29-Aug. 12, 1967), and ranked a powerful #6 for the entire year! Robby (very first song he wrote!) and Jim created the best, hardest rock song ever! Once you start playing this masterpiece, you can't just stop until you get to 6m 53s, the end of it! My pick (singing version) for the MOST EXCITING SONG in the entire Rock 'n Roll era, 1955-present! Ray Manzarek's manic keyboard playing adds the crowning touch to this uplifting, matchless song! The only song that competes anywhere close to and strongly with it for pure excitement, in my opinion is, "She Loves You" (1963) by the Liverpool invaders! "Heat Wave" by Martha and The Vandellas (1963) would be in 3rd place, "Come Go With Me" by the Del-Vikings (1957) a solid 4th, and 5th is "Surf City" (1963) by Jan & Dean. Just my personal feelings on the emotional connection and top excitement raised by these classics that can never be duplicated, replicated, or covered by any but the original artists!

Possibly one of the best rock guitar solos ever

Whaddaya mean, possibly? It IS! And don't you forget it! EVER! I haven't from June 1967, when the original (and then long version) came out with a BANG, and grabbed ahold of me, like no other HARD ROCK song ever did before--or since!
