End of the night, end of the night
Take a journey to the bright midnight
End of the night, end of the night
Realms of bliss, realms of light
Some are born to sweet delight
Some are born to sweet delight
End of the night, end of the night
End of the night, end of the night
Realms of bliss, realms of light
Some are born to sweet delight
Some are born to sweet delight
Some are born to the endless night
End of the night, end of the night
End of the night, end of the night
The Doors' song, End of the Night, is an exploration of the duality of life with its ups and downs. The lyrics ask the listener to take the highway to the end of the night, which is both a physical and metaphorical journey. The "end of the night" represents the end of life, and the song entices the listener to take a journey to the bright midnight, the unknown, and the afterlife.
The phrase "realms of bliss, realms of light" refers to various interpretations of heaven or an afterlife. The next verse complicates this concept, some are born to sweet delight, while others are born to the endless night, suggesting that not everyone will experience the same fate. The repetition of the lyrics and chorus increase the impact of this idea, emphasizing the inevitability of the end of life and the importance of how we choose to live it.
The song also has a bluesy, psychedelic quality, with Ray Manzarek's haunting keyboard melodies, John Densmore's syncopated drumming and Robby Krieger's guitar solo. Lead singer Jim Morrison's vocals are moody and emotive, adding to the melancholic atmosphere. Ultimately, End of the Night is a poignant reminder to live life on our own terms, and to find meaning in both the good and the bad.

Adapted from William Blake:
Every Night and every Morn
Some to Misery are Born.
Every Morn and every Night
Some are Born to sweet delight.
Some are Born to sweet delight,
Some are Born to Endless Night.
Who knows why it should be so?
Man was made for Joy and Woe
Man was made for Joy and Woe
Woman for the Hell below.

Trascendencia pura y total.
Versos dignos de un epitafio:
"Reinos de dicha, reinos de luz
Algunos nacen para el dulce deleite
Algunos nacen para la noche sin fin..."

Poem I wrote inspired by this song
Nature
The moon shines bright like a massive ember
The trees tower over me like skyscrapers
The twilight howls at me like a wolf
As I walk through the forest taking it in
The fish swimming in the creek all happy go lucky
The crickets chirping their own little tunes
It’s 3:28 AM
I have nowhere to be

I love this song. It reminds me of how great the Doors were in the early, LSD days. Entrancing is a good word. Thank you. I love you.

This song totally captures the essence of Jim's voice: sweet, warm- enveloping even, yet with a strange, mad animalism to it. Yet both equally visionary. The two sides to James Douglas Morrison.

You're so right, friend.

Yes! There was something primal about JDM...yes...animalistic. Maybe there is some truth in that story he told about the soul of the Native American who died, leaping into his soul 🤔 and this Native American's Spirit Animal was a coyote. Because Jim could scream and howl with the best of them!

Very well put reznov!

I was in a good high school band, we did this song at a school dance. It was strange--people just stood there gazing at us like they were either hypnotized by the eerie cosmic nature of the song--or totally BORED! At the end of our little "gig," we were approached by several students that said we were "in a totally different ZONE, baby." One dude said, "Far out, man--that was like, far-out." I guess we nailed that tune quite well. Memories, man--memories.
