In the Rain
The Dramatics Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wanna go outside, in the rain
It may sound crazy
But I wanna go outside, in the rain
'Cause I, I think I'm gonna cry
And I, I don't want you to see me cry
I go outside, in the rain
It may sound crazy
But I wanna go outside in the rain

Once the rain starts falling
On my face
You won't see, a single trace
Of the tears I'm crying
Because of you I'm crying
Don't want you to see me cry
Let me go, let me go, let me go

In the rain

Once the sun comes out
And the rain has gone away
I know I'm gonna see a better day
Right now I think I'm crying
Because of you I'm crying
Don't want you to see me cry
Let me go, let me go, let me go

(Let me go outside, in the rain)

It may sound crazy, but I

It may sound crazy, but I
I wanna go outside, in the rain

Overall Meaning

The Dramatics' song "In the Rain" is a heart-wrenching tale of a man who wants to cry without being seen. The opening lyrics contain the paradoxical desire to go outside into the rain, even though the act may seem crazy. The reason behind the desire becomes apparent with the repetition of the lines "I think I'm gonna cry" and "I don't want you to see me cry." The man chooses to go outside in the rain to mask his tears because no one can tell the difference between rainwater and tears.

The lyrics are poignant and relatable to anyone who has felt the need to hide their emotions. The chorus is a plea to be allowed to do so without anyone else's interference or scrutiny. The lines "let me go, let me go, let me go" emphasize the man's desire for solitude and space.

The second verse reveals that the tears are the result of heartbreak due to a person the man loved, an unmentioned "you." The melancholic use of words like "single trace" and "because of you" further emphasize the sorrow that the singer is experiencing.

Overall, "In the Rain" is a beautiful song with a universal message about the healing power of solitude and the need to express oneself without fear or judgment.

When my daddy was in a coma after he's stroke. I would sit by his bed start singing this song to him. This was he's favorite group and song. He tried waking up instead he squeezed my hand so tightly. I whisper to him letting him know we had forgiven him along time ago, we understood his past regarding his addiction. My dad had passed away December 2012. I miss him terribly but the good memories weighs out the bad. Always love you daddy❤❤❤
