Formed in 1956, the group took several names early in its career, recording demos as The Romancers and The Midnighters (under which name they backed Chubby Checker on a 1958 recording of "The Twist").[1] They recorded briefly for V-Tone Records before signing to Heritage Records, who released their 1961 single "When We Get Married". The song reached #10 on the US Billboard Hot 100; the next year, their tune "If I Should Lose You" (on End Records) made it to #61.[2]
The group remained active well into the 1960s. "When We Get Married" was covered by The Intruders in 1970.
If I Should Lose You

My friends will laugh and say
We told you so
They keep on asking me
Why don't you let her go
They said she'll soon
Break my heart
If I should lose your love
Each time I cry, they say
We told you say
Friends keep on asking me
Why don't you let her go
Friends say we'll soon
Have to part
You go your way, I'll go mine
Letting everybody know
But I'll forget your love in time
Funny but that's the way life goes
If I should lose you
My friends will laugh and say
We told you so
They keep on asking me
Why don't you let her go
They said she'll soon
Break my heart
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Break my heart
The Dreamlovers' song "If I Should Lose You" is a heart-wrenching ballad about the fear of losing a loved one. The lyrics capture the anxiety and pain of losing someone dear and the way people try to rationalize the loss by warning you that it was coming.
In the first verse, the singer acknowledges that if he were to lose his beloved, his friends would laugh and say, "We told you so." This suggests that his friends don't think the relationship will last and are already expecting it to fail. The singer is now faced with the possibility of losing his partner, and his friends have already pressured him to move on. The second verse repeats this theme, with the friends insisting that he needs to let her go because she is going to break his heart.
The chorus reflects his friends' skepticism and lack of empathy, as they continue to judge and criticize him for holding onto love. At the end of the verse, the singer acknowledges that his friends are likely right, and he should prepare for the inevitable break up. He resigns himself to move on, but despite that, he knows that his love for her won't fade immediately, and it will take time for him to forget her.
Overall, "If I Should Lose You" is a poignant and relatable song about the fear of losing a romantic partner, and the difficulty of coming to terms with that loss. The Dreamlovers created a beautifully written piece that is still cherished today.

The Dream Lovers without question, was one of the GREATEST LOVE SONGS " DOO WHOPPERS OF ALL TIME " In my opinion. ALSO OUT OF ALL RESPECT I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE GREAT HONORS AND RESPECT TO: LISA AND THE LOVE TONES. This LEGENDARY GROUP, still have youth and are in still our reach today; LISA AND THE LOVE TONES.

simple words, simple melody and harmony....quite effective back then, too bad the music of today couldn't reinvent itself and drift back to "those" days of easier living AND loving....just saying at 76 years old now, youth was a wonderful wonderful thing kiddies!
