Don't Act Like You Don't Know
The Drifters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You don't know what it's like to be me
You don't know what it's like to be me

I've been pushed around and shoved around all at your offense
I've been thrown around and smashed around all in your defense

You don't know what it's like to be me
You don't know what it's like to be me

You play the game, I've heard the name and you'll do it all again
And things are bad, all the shit I had and I don't wanna be your friend

You don't know what it's like to be me
You don't know what it's like to be me

Tell me lies, I'm petrified and girl you know it's true
The truth must hide, my love has died and I can't look at you

You don't know what it's like to be me
You don't know what it's like to be me

You don't know what it's like to be me
You don't know what it's like to be me

I think the line ‘Until I let you go, is actually ‘Until he lets you go’ which implies that she is possibly married to someone else. This would make sense about why the singer and her have to keep their relationship secret. That’s how I’ve always viewed this great song
