The Drifters Lyrics

I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus
Underneath the mistletoe last night
She didn't see me creap
Down the stairs to have a peek
She thought that I was tucked up
In my Bedroom fast asleep

Then I saw mommy tickle Santa Claus
Tunderneath his beard so snowy white
What a laugh it would have been
If daddy had only seen
Mommy kissing Santa Claus last night

I saw mommy kissing santa claus
Underneath the mistletoe last night
She didn't see me creap
Down the stairs to have peak
She thought that I was tucked up
In my Bedroom fast asleep

Then I saw mommy tickle santa claus
Underneath his beard so snowy white
What a laugh it would have been
If daddy had only seen

Mommy kissing Santa Claus last night
Mommy kissing Santa Claus last night

Overall Meaning

The song "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" by The Drifters is a Christmas classic that was originally written by songwriter Tommie Connor in 1952. The song tells the story of a child who witnessed their mother kissing Santa Claus underneath the mistletoe on Christmas Eve. The child watched from afar as their mother playfully tickled Santa Claus's snowy white beard. The child finds the situation amusing and wonders what would happen if their father had seen the scene.

Many interpretations have been made about the lyrics of the song. Some see the song as a lighthearted tale of Christmas mischief while others view it as a tale of infidelity. However, the song's innocence and playfulness suggest that it was not meant to be interpreted as an affair. Rather, the song speaks of the excitement and magic of Christmas and how it can bring people closer together, even if it's just for one night.

The song has been covered by many artists over the years, including The Ronettes, John Mellencamp, and Amy Winehouse. The Drifters' version has remained the most popular and has been featured in movies, TV shows, and commercials.

I think the line ‘Until I let you go, is actually ‘Until he lets you go’ which implies that she is possibly married to someone else. This would make sense about why the singer and her have to keep their relationship secret. That’s how I’ve always viewed this great song
