Love Me Like a Rock
The Drifters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It starts with two hearts fractured in the dark
Broken and choking on all the parts
By daylight we play right
But there’s no spark
In your eyes when you look at me
Like the way it used to be
Let’s Sip wine that reminds
Of happier times
When you loved me like new
Love me like new
Turn on our first song
And I’ll sing along
Till you love me like new
Love me like you used to
Touching is something that starts to heal
Deep in, under skin, what do you feel?
Just for a moment
There’s something real
In your eyes when you look at me
The way it used to be
Let’s Sip wine that reminds
Of happier times
When you loved me like new
Love me like new
Turn on our first song
And I’ll sing along
Till you love me like new
Love me like you used to
Don’t fade to grey
Don’t fade away
Sing with me
Oooooohhhh
Don’t fade to grey
Don’t fade away
Sing with me
Oooooohhhh
Don’t fade to black
We’ll bring it back
Sing with me
Ooooooohhhh
Don’t fade to black
We’ll bring it back
Sing with me
Ooooooohhhh
Sip wine that reminds
Of happier times
When you loved me like new
Love me like new
Turn on our first song
And I’ll sing along
Till you love me like new
Love me like you used to
Love me like new
Love me like new
Love me like new
Love me like you used to

I think the line ‘Until I let you go, is actually ‘Until he lets you go’ which implies that she is possibly married to someone else. This would make sense about why the singer and her have to keep their relationship secret. That’s how I’ve always viewed this great song
