You've Got Your Troubles
The Drifters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I see that worried look upon your face
You've got your troubles, I've got mine
She's found somebody else to take your place
You've got your troubles, I've got mine

I too have lost my love today
All of my dreams have flown away
Now just like you, I sit and wonder why
You've got your troubles, I've got mine
You need some sympathy, well so do I
You've got your troubles, I've got mine

She used to love me, that I know
And it don't seem so long ago

That we were walking
And we were talking
The way that lovers do

I too have lost my love today
All of my dreams have flown away

And so forgive me if I seem unkind (I ain't got no pity for you)
You've got your troubles, I've got mine (I lost, I lost, I lost my little girl
Too)
I'd help another place, another time
You've got your troubles, I've got mine

You've got your troubles, I've got mine
You've got your troubles, I've got mine.

Overall Meaning

In this song, The Drifters are describing the shared experience of heartbreak and loss. They acknowledge the worried look on someone's face, someone who has seemingly lost their love to somebody else. The singer also reveals that they have recently lost their own love, and it's clear that both are struggling to cope with the loss. As the song progresses, they reminisce about the times they spent with their former loves, and even though they empathize with each other, there is an underlying bitterness and unwillingness to be there for one another (as shown in the line "And so forgive me if I seem unkind").

Essentially, what's being conveyed here is that everyone goes through hardship, but it's difficult to truly be there for others when you're still dealing with your own personal issues. The song paints a picture of the isolation and loneliness that comes with going through heartbreak, despite the fact that it's something everyone experiences at some point in their lives.

@edwardhayes6111

Sounds like the great Johnny Moore Drifters

@joelholmes1260

(A revival of) the British TV satirical show "Spitting Image," can play this as a parody of The Queen's eventual funeral service (performed by hand puppets- similar to their version of "Go Now" [1990], depicting Mrs. Thatcher's resignation from Office).

@gillisvg7508
