Fun fact: The Murphys got death threats for writing this song from Red Sox fans. In the liner notes of the album The Warriors Code, the band wrote:

"We recorded this song in June 2004 and after giving it to the Red Sox told anyone that would listen that this song would guarantee a World Series victory. Obviously no one listened to us or took us seriously. We were three outs away from elimination in game 4 at the hands of the Yankees and receiving death threats from friends, family, & strangers telling us to stay away from the Red Sox and any other Boston sports team and get out of town. Luckily for us things turned around for the Red Sox and the rest is history."

I loved my trip to Boston. Went to a Giants-Red Sox game at Fenway for my high school graduation and the fans were so friendly. Driving into Boston the people were aggressive drivers but they were the coolest people to talk sports with in the bars and sports shops. Fenway was so classy with Mike Yastrzemski on the Giants for obvious reasons but it was still awesome seeing them cheer for him when he’d get a hit. Probably the greatest trip I’ve taken so far in my life.

I was at a Sox-Mets game at Fenway a few years ago and you guys had sent busloads of fans. The opposing chants were rocking the old place (I think we even brought out Dar-ryl even though he was nowhere to be found), until right around Sweet Caroline someone started a Yankees Suck chant and it was the greatest kumbaya moment ever.

The Royal Rooters were a bunch of rowdy Red Sox fans (John F. Kennedy's grandfather, Honey Fitz, was a member) and the story of "Nuf Ced" McGreevey and the storming of the gates is legendary in baseball circles (yes, they did actually stop the game). This is a great telling of their story.

to be honest I don't think if someone were asked to write a song about the sox now it would turn out this good. The fire in the fans before the bambino's curse was broken was what produced a song this good, and to be honest I think the organization's become complacent since the string of World Series victories. im a hardcore indian fan, though both of my parents lived in boston for a while. hence, growing up in a baseball family, we grew up worshipping the red sox. i don't know what it was....maybe it was the "rebellious" in me, maybe i wanted to be "different". either which way, i ended up choosing cleveland as my favorite team in 1992, i was 12. still, watching the red sox win again last week, seeing both my brother and my dad with tears in their eyes, i could never stop loving the red sox.

I LOVE THIS SONG!! And I'm a Yankee fan... The real reason for the Red Sox 86 year curse was not The Bambino, but not singing Tessie at World Series games. The original Broadway version was first sung by The Royal Rooters in 1903 and helped the Sox to come back and win the Series. Since then no Boston team (Sox or Braves) has ever won a WS without singing the song and never lost when it was sung. The Dropkick Murphy's great version in 2004 brought the magic back so long missing.
