1) A garage rock/punk band from NYC.
2) This is the bio for the band from Sweden.
At the place where pop meets rock and where melodies intertwine with raw power, thats where we find THE DROWNERS. Shaped by the extreme weather conditions of northern Sweden and the boredom/comfort of small city life, the band emerged in the middle of the Britpop explosion in the early nineties. They embraced that whole era with their feet still firmly rooted in American alternative rock with influences from Hüsker Dü, REM, The Del-Fuegos, The Sidewinders, The Replacements and so on. Add to that a small portion of hard rock and you have the lethal cocktail that is the foundation of THE DROWNERS.
The new album "Cease To Be" continues on the somewhat darker lyrical theme set on the previous album, "Muted To A Whisper". Melancholy is the word that springs to mind in an effort to sum the vibe of the album, although a couple of tracks sports a take on the lighter sides of existence as well. The rough riffs and soaring drums are ever present, mixed with plenty of sweet vocal harmonies. Songwriting and lyrics are still the main ingredients though, delivered by vocal and rythm with more punch and energy than ever before.

Virus
The Drowners Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
every station's bound to play
the radio's been wasted
when you go to sleep at night
I'll be there to do you right
this song will make you dull
forget me if you can
I'll crawl inside your head
when you're sound asleep in bed
I'm a virus upon man
forget me if you can
I'll make you sing along
to this unavailing song
it's a radiation thing
and television's king
this tune won't let you rest
just close your eyes and hum
ignore that you look dumb
a theme that won't let go
retain your sanity
escape this melody
when inside your head
won't let go until you're…
The lyrics to The Drowners' song Virus are a commentary on the power of media in our lives. The first stanza sets the scene with the idea that no matter where we turn, we cannot escape the constant noise and bombardment of media in our lives. The second stanza seems to be a threat from the media itself, personified as a virus that will infiltrate and take over our very thoughts and dreams. The chorus repeats this idea with the refrain "I'm a virus upon man, forget me if you can," and the warning that the song will make us "dull" and "unavailing." The song portrays the media as a relentless force that we cannot escape from, even as we try to ignore it.
Overall, the lyrics to Virus are a commentary on the increasingly invasive role that media play in our lives, and how we are often powerless to resist its influence. The song is a warning about the dangers of becoming too immersed in the constant stream of noise and distraction that surrounds us, and a call to wake up and reclaim control of our own thoughts and actions.
