Best Friend
The Drums Lyrics

You're my best friend
But then you died
When I was 23 and you were 25

You're my best friend
But then you died
And how will I survive, survive
Survive, survive?
Oh how will I survive, survive
Survive, survive?

And every day I waited for you
And every day on the top of your car
Every day I waited for you
And every day on the hood of your car

I had a dream of you
You were drifting away
You were sad and the ocean dripped away

And I know, you're gonna be OK
'Cuz I can see in your eyes
Your eyes, your eyes, your eyes
Oh no no no, I wanna survive
Survive, survive, survive.

And every day I waited for you
And every day on the top of your car
Every day I waited for you
And every day on the hood of your car

And every day I waited for you
And every day on the top of your car
Every day I waited for you
And every day on the hood of your car

I'm a 54 year old guy. My brother (a few years younger) both love 80s stuff; Smiths, English Beat, various other stuff. I discovered The Drums on youtube and turned my brother on to them. On Thanksgiving a few years ago, I arrived at my sisters house, walked into her living room, and sang to my brother, "you're my best friend, but then you died...". my brother (a 300 lb. guy) stood up and did the Jonathan dance from this video. I laughed my ass off.

Willy Pete

Laughed my ass off just reading that, that is awesome.

@Mark Joyce That's ok. The sad part is, I lost my brother a couple years ago to, well, I guess multiple health issues. So... he was my friend and then he died. Miss you Matt.

A bit late replying to this, but I have loved the Drums for ages. I genuinely see how the Smiths may have been an influence to these guys

My music teacher showed me this when I was 13 years old in middle school. I thought this was lame and weird. I’m 22 now and I’m realizing this was really a phenomenal song. The Drums are so underrated. EDIT: just found out my music teacher from middle school died of cancer. God bless you Mr.Letso.

He also showed the class A Hard Days Night (the movie) and introduced me to the Beatles

Charlie Stone
