The Drums were formed in late 2006. Relocating to New York, The Drums added former Elkland guitarist Adam Kessler on second guitar and NYC born drummer Connor Hanwick (formerly of lo-fi teen pop duo Cape of No Hope) to the line up and set up a month long residency at a small club on the lower east side of Manhattan. They released their debut single Let's Go Surfing on on 15 September 2009, which the Let's Go Surfing Songfacts reports was inspired by Barack Obama's victory in the 2008 presidential election.
In September 2010, guitarist Adam Kessler left the band, Followed by Connor Hanwick in 2012 and Jacob Graham in 2016.
Jonny Pierce is the only remaining member.

Anthony Suárez Haha Thinking of it made me laugh but we kept seeing each other I did my best to keep things logical but he told me that it was okay to fall and get attached that we’ll work out so I did but after he moved after 2 weeks he ghosted me I was sad & mad I deleted his number the “what ifs” were messing me up pretty bad I was looking for closure from him after an year I still felt some hate then he contacted me with a weak apology that’s when I realised the closer I needed had to come from myself my own closure after that I was fine till he contacted me he showed me pictures of us that he kept with no context or explanation but after that I was like nope he doesn’t say anything I can’t read his mind end of that story, he’s still around my social media but I am involved with someone else that I’m actually happy with I just hope the best but I learned some couple of good lessons from that experience so I’m thankful
