but I don't know how
And I know I supposed to forget you
somebody tell me how
'Cause I've seen everyone
I've seen everyone
I've seen everyone
I buried you deep in my heart
It takes everything in me
To make you happy
You take what I have to give
'Till I feel empty
And I'll keep coming back to be with you
Like the morning sun
Cause I've seen everyone
I've seen everyone
I've seen everyone
And you're not everyone
I buried you deep in my heart
Cause I've seen everyone
I've seen everyone
I've seen everyone
And you're not everyone
The lyrics of "Deep in My Heart" by The Drums is a introspective song about the emotional journey of remembering someone who has left, and trying to forget them. The singer seems to be grappling with the idea of moving on, while still feeling the pain of missing the person. He acknowledges that he is supposed to forget this person but he doesn't know how to. He has seen everyone else but they are not the person he buried deep in his heart. This song is a ballad to a lost love and the difficulties and pain that come with trying to let go of someone you deeply care for.
The repetition of the phrase "I've seen everyone" appears to allude to the search for a replacement for the person the singer is trying to forget; everyone else may seem to be the same, but they are not the person he lost. The expression 'I've buried you deep in my heart' is a metaphorical representation of the singer's inability to forget the person he cared for, revealing that the person he buried is still alive in his memories.
Overall, this song represents the struggle of trying to overcome intimate and emotional ties with someone that has left, and how it is not easy to forget someone that was once an essential part of your life.
