Learn
The Dunts Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm holding on
To all the things you told me
Worth living for, worth taking time to heal me
When I'm on my own
When I'm by myself
My fears have grown, it's a detriment to my health

And it's a lot for me to take
When my life's at stake
I hear your words, they spur me on to
Learn by my mistakes
Learn by my mistakes

I thought the only way was to hide myself away
I could no longer stay in that company
If I had only known, what it would do for me
Try to think things over
Try to set me free

And it's a lot for me to take
When my life's at stake
I hear your words, they spur me on to
Learn by my mistakes
Learn by my mistakes

And it's a lot for me to take
When my life's at stake
I hear your words, they spur me on to

Learn by my mistakes

Overall Meaning

The Dunts's song "Learn" is about the struggle between holding onto past traumas and letting them go. The singer is holding onto the advice given to them by someone who they trusted and who may have helped them through a difficult time. They are struggling with fear and anxiety, and they realize that it's detrimental to their health. Despite this, they feel buoyed by the words of encouragement they received and know that the only way to move forward is to learn from their mistakes.

The chorus repeats the phrase "learn by my mistakes" and it's almost as if the singer is trying to convince themselves to believe it. They have been so used to hiding away from their problems that they are unsure if learning from them is even possible. The line "I thought the only way was to hide myself away" illustrates this fear and uncertainty. However, they realize that hiding away has caused them more harm than good and that they need to try and "set themselves free".

Overall, the song is about taking responsibility for one's life and learning from previous mistakes. It encourages the listener to seek help, to talk to someone, and to try and learn from past experiences so that they can move forward.
