Glad to introduce you to this one. Roulette had a few gems up their sleeve.

The Cognacs actually had almost a hit, at least in NYC, with "Charlena," a roaring track also done by The Sevilles on JC. I don't know which was the original; both are rough, hard, wonderful and sound black as they come - very deep r&b. Either one is great; check them out!

Here's the scoop. I interviewed Little Anthony on the phone this past Sunday (2-19-12) and he confirmed he wasn't with the Duponts for this song. He sang with them earlier on the Winley and Royal Roost labels but when this song came out he was already with the Imperials. He did record for Roulette as a solo artist in the early '60s but nothing came of it. Frank Sinatra helped him get out of his contract with Roulette and he went on to DCP Records for some of his greatest hits soon after that.
