You
The Duponts Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I see your face
It's warmer than the sunny shoots that rain down
From our tiny house Monet
That makes me feel that I can't move my feet
It's a golden retriever mixed with a beagle
God let's save its life
From the daily routine but I won't
Get to look into your eyes again
Moving to a trace
Of when I heard the deed drew
Locked in chains of copper
Making gold look new
And one day, I'll look out of the window
And I'll break through
I'll make steps towards your house
And I'll ask you if you really want to dance
I've been trying to woo you
I've made sentimental letters in the shapes of hearts
I've got nothing left to lose
The shape of your hands is like a work of art
Colors get erased
By the notes that I can't speak to
Building melodies
In ways I've never seen
Held up in grassy lines
Curates tastes that I can't seem to
Underestimate these ears
Have ever heard
I've been trying to woo you
I've made sentimental letters in the shapes of hearts
I've got nothing left to lose
The shape of your hands is like a work of art
I've been trying to woo you
I've made sentimental letters in the shapes of hearts

I've got nothing left to lose
The shape of your hands is like a work of art

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Duponts' song "You" depict a deep infatuation with someone's presence and beauty. The opening line, "When I see your face, it's warmer than the sunny shoots that rain down," suggests that the sight of this person brings comfort and joy, even surpassing the warmth of the sun. The reference to Monet's tiny house signifies the beauty and tranquility of their connection, further emphasizing the overwhelming feeling that makes it hard for the singer to move. The imagery of a golden retriever mixed with a beagle portrays a beloved pet, symbolizing the desire to protect and cherish this person's life.

Despite longing for more moments to gaze into their eyes, the singer feels trapped in a routine that prevents them from doing so. The lines "One day, I'll look out of the window and I'll break through / I'll make steps towards your house" represent the hope and determination to approach and ask this person to dance, symbolizing a desire to deepen their relationship. The expression "I've been trying to woo you" and the mention of sentimental letters in the shapes of hearts highlight the singer's efforts to win this person's affection, suggesting that they have poured their heart into capturing their attention and love.

The repeated mention of the shape of the person's hands being like a work of art emphasizes their unique and captivating beauty. The lyrics also hint at the power of music and its ability to evoke certain emotions and transform experiences, as the reference to "melodies" and "grass lines" suggests the singer finding inspiration and solace through music.

Overall, "You" portrays an intense infatuation with someone, conveying the singer's longing, efforts to win their love, and admiration for their physical and emotional qualities.

Without Eddie Dockery! There would be NO little Anthony! Eddie put the group together in Brooklyn, New York and got the record deal and got zero credit for it after Anthony snuck out the back door with a slime fly by night producer and made his own new group. Facts!!!

Anthony is from my projects(Fort Greene/ R V Ingersoll Houses). I have seen him walking around the projects all the time. His girlfriend, who became his wife, lived in a building connected to my building. He use to come and court her. He sometimes called to her window, for her to come down. We use to watch, a small crowd would form. Someone would get the nerve to go over to him and ask for an autograph. Then everyone would go over and ask for one. He was polite. He would sign his name on pieces of paper. Earnest Wright, one of the members of the group, his sisters, were in my dance class, and went to my junior high school (Sands Sands Junior high, 275)
