The Earth Program is a multimedia cross-genre indie rock band based out of Chicago, IL
and the fictional universe of Obbityville.

Describing their sound as "atomic rawk, stoner pop, mama jama, retro spooky, space punk", Earth Program's highly engergetic live performances noteable for stage antics, costumes, and projected visuals have stirred quite a buzz in the local music & art communities over the past few years.

Earth Program's musical & visual asethetic is influenced by bands and elements of retro pop culture, such as: The Beatles, Ramones, Nirvana, Pixies, Arcade Fire, RadioHead, Flaming Lips, Joy Division, Neutral Milk Hotel, Polaris, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, The Twilight Zone, Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & The Adventures of Pete and Pete.

This videoclip about Johnny Carson fails to mention that supposedly one of his "The Tonight Show" guests that he couldn't stand was "Charlie's Angels" actress Tanya Roberts. Supposedly during his interview of her on his show, he got the impression that she is an "airhead" and he supposedly said to her either during the interview or after the show went to a commercial break, "Do you ever read a book?", which was not only insensitive of him but also downright rude.

Easy here’s the answer. Bob Hope because he couldn’t do an interview without it being scripted. Joan Rivers because she quit being a guest host and she took an opportunity to host her own chat show in the same time slot.
John Davidson because he quit guest hosting to host his own chat show.
Sally Field because she broke up with him. Frank Gifford because Frank had an affair with his second wife.
Wayne Newton because Wayne won the bidding war for a casino in Las Vegas against Johnny. That covers it.

He had some fun times on his show, too. Whenever John Wayne was on the show, I made it a point to watch it for sure. I enjoyed watching when old timers were on the show, like James Stewart, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Chuck Connors and even Uncle Milti, Milton Berle.

Johnny will be remember by so many who looked forward to the show as a nightcap to the work-week day. The talented writers he employed skewered liberals and conservatives equally and Johnny's delivery was always masterful....you never felt that the show was slanted to a particular bent and the laughs were genuine, not dubbed in later. We expect them to be perfect because we’ve liked them on television, movies, their records or whatever but actually a minimal amount of entertainers strive to be upstanding. Same w/politicians. I heard a story about Tim Conway on the show. Carson was committed to have a guest on for a certain amount of time. The guest was the most boring guest ever. While Carson was talking to this guest, unknown to him, Conway kept turning the clock back so Carson was stuck talking to this guest. As a result a cage was put on the clock so it couldn't be easily adjusted

Who does not have flaws? He was the king of late night show hosts. Nobody will ever be as good as he was at doing interviews. I grew up watching him from a kid until the time he stopped in 91. I heard about some of the bad blood with others. Joan Rivers I can understand, but not to just block her from his life. That was sad. If I had been her, I would have asked Johnny first about it. Joan was very cute in her younger days, after plastic surgery, wow nobody could recognize her. I was surprised about Bob Hope. Bob was a very good man. He was funny , in many comedies. He always went into war zones for our troops. I will always love Bob Hope for that reason alone. He grew up in England until 8 years old and moved to America.

Mr. Carson was and is still one of the best talk show hosts in history. One of the naturally funny men on TV. I still watch him at least once a week. Some people seem to thrive on negativity. It might be wise to separate art from personal issues. The old adage

i loved johnny , i watched every episode, when he left the tonight show i never watched late night again. just because you drink does not mean youre a bad person, but johnny let his drinking get the better of him, so sad

I agree. He put together a good show. As far as his personal life...Idk maybe the pressure of hosting a top late night show and be funny night in and and night out and be successful is a lot of pressure, sometimes because people were constantly mobbing him, probably asking him for money, to invest in their business or organization, being invited to parties and engagements he didnt like...who knows...
People can be annoying sometimes and he wanted peace and quiet and get away from the BS.

😣 I read the detailed book on Johnny's life called "THE KING OF LATE NIGHT".... That book truly gave us a behind-the-scenes detailed view of what he was like In Front Of The Camera and Behind It.... Books that revealing...make you realize that nothing on tv or no one, is what you think

Your picture of the blonde with the big front looks like the girl I remember Johnny had on. He introduced her, she sat down and he started asking her questions. No matter what he said she would not interact with him. A couple of minutes into it, he broke for a commercial and when it came back on, she was gone and nothing was said about her.

Carson was a guest, usually unannounced, on the Letterman show. There's one in particular where Johnny comes in while Dave is doing his monalogue. Johnny sits behind the desk, appears to contemplate it all, then goes "nah" with a great big grin, then walks off stage. The audience went nuts. He really liked Dave, and they remained in touch. Carson didn't care for Leno.

Johnny's opening monologue was comedy cream that we got 5 nights a week. He would often show the audience how he was bombing b/c the jokes weren't landing...great stuff. Only somebody very relaxed with performing could pull off such a thing.
But yeah, if he truly started hating a guest, he'd start blinking obsessively, then after commercial, the offending guest would be totally gone, never to be mentioned again.

Loved him as a TV star! I still watch reruns a few times a week.

I have seen hundreds of his shows over the last few years. I THINK he may have had a bit of a pill problem, in addition to his drinking. On numerous occasions he apologizes at the outset of a show, before or during the monologue, saying something like (I am paraphrasing!) "I've had a cold and the doctor gave me some of this new medicine and it makes you kind of loopy but wow, these things are great, you ever had any of this new stuff", looking over at Ed. I strongly suspect he is referencing semi-synthetic opiates, he even mentions Percodan by name, IIRC. He clearly had a bit of an obsession with these things. It is most unusual that he refers to them so many times on his show.

Ed new that he had icy confrontations with his underlings and stated that he was terrified, thinking that he was getting the ax. Johnny only notified him that he was doing a fine job. He said, I don’t know how you do it but you add a quality I cannot define but it works in our show. Ed was floored, thinking he was over but instead he was complemented. Some said that Ed did nothing spectacularly. He said you never knew what Johnny would do.

What made Carson such a great host is his inability to connect personally in private life. There's s hundred million guys who are great husbands, fathers, friends etc who would bore a late night audience to death.

And Johnny's drunk driving gave us Dana Carvey 's impressions of it:

"I'm sorry I was swerving, officer, I shouldn't have had that third Slippery Monkey at 'The Hook & Crook' ...'"

Recently saw the 1972 show in which Johnny brought out Terry Galanoy, an author who had put out a book on the history of the Tonight Show, and proceeded to rip into Galanoy about stories that he claimed were made up and completely untrue. The author was reduced to repeating that his research had consisted entirely of interviews with people who were there when the various incidents supposedly happened and that those people would know.

Before the show was over, James Garner and Bruce Dern who were still on the panel and had earlier gotten in a good number of digs at Johnny and at each other, joined forces with the host and laid into Galanoy about "how dare you try to pull this hatchet job and spread malicious stories". The guy was practically in tears by the time they finally rolled credits.

you can't go by just people's word of mouth alone. Those stories should've been fact-checked before releasing the book. What he did was no different then what tabloids and social media puppets do. Publish or post whatever stories grab attention or make money regardless of their factual content. National Enquirer was notorious for that crap. The media giants are doing that as well. You can't believe everything you read or hear these days.

This vid got 2.1K thumbs up so far, and only 191 thumbs down. < I've never understood how a so-so video can get so many likes vs dislikes, but when you read the comments that are mostly dislikes, it tells a different story. I bet there are MORE than 191 negative comments, which is strange because clicking thumbs down is so much easier than writing a negative post that goes on and on....D'OH! I did both.

To me Carson at times was funny but he had a stiffness about him, his body posture that just was off as well as all of his preening gestures, the tie, the finger by his eye, adjusting his suit jacket etc. Some people say it was a sign of insecurity.

I can understand that I used to have a drinking problem For many years I want to AA. But now I go to a different program RU It's like AA but it's a Christian program.

@@christineribone9351 That's Bob Hope. Johnny didn't really like having Hope on because it all had to be scripted. Why? Because Hope was deaf! Profoundly hard of hearing, Hope had basically stopped working on anything that could not be scripted ahead of time. It wasn't what Johnny's show was about, but Johnny did have Hope on, time and time again. It was worth it to him to put up with the problems it caused. Hope was under contract with the network and produced and appeared in various special programs. Johnny was stuck with a number of promotional appearances with Hope and he resented the network dictates. But he liked and personally admired Bob Hope, according to some sources.

On the other hand I felt similar in college. There was a deaf girl and her interpreter at the front of the class. That interpreter was extremely distracting signing and waving her arms in front of everyone. I was very annoyed and asked them to go to the back of the room.

She said the deaf woman had to read lips too. So they refused to move. During the entire lecture the deaf girl NEVER once looked at the lecturer or the wildly signing interpreter. Their side show was disgusting!
