Cold
The East Pointers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You brought me spring, some may flowers bloom.
You kept 'em nice while we slept underneath the moon.
You tell me why the brightest lights burn out so soon.

The snow keeps fallin' baby in the past.
I'm out here digging for what I can't get back.
My hands are frozen I'm feeling old.
The snow keeps fallin' and I have never ever felt so cold.
I've never ever felt so cold.

I feel my days growing shorter now that you're gone.
The northeast winds blowing, winters coming on.
I thought our summer would last forever.
But now it's December.

The snow keeps fallin' baby in the past.
I'm out here digging for what I can't get back.
My hands are frozen, I'm feeling old.
The snow keeps fallin', and I have never ever felt so cold.
I've never ever felt so cold.

The snow keeps fallin' baby in the past.
I'm out here digging for what I can't get back.
My hands are frozen, I'm feeling old.
The snow keeps fallin' baby in the past.
I'm out here digging for what I can't get back.
My hands are frozen, I'm feeling old.

The snow keeps fallin' and I have never ever felt so cold.
I've never ever felt so cold.

Overall Meaning

The East Pointers' song "Cold" is a heart-wrenching ballad about the struggles of moving on after a relationship ends. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a person who is left behind after their partner has moved on. They are left to deal with the onset of winter and the freezing temperatures that only serve to emphasize their sense of loneliness and despair. The chorus, "The snow keeps fallin' baby in the past. I'm out here digging for what I can't get back. My hands are frozen, I'm feeling old. The snow keeps fallin', and I have never ever felt so cold," is particularly poignant, emphasizing the sense of loss and hopelessness that the singer feels.

The opening lines of the song reference spring and the blooming of flowers, adding a sense of warmth and hopefulness that is later countered by the onset of winter. The contrast between the seasons, along with the use of vivid imagery, serves to emphasize the emotional journey the singer is going through. The bridge, "I feel my days growing shorter now that you're gone. The northeast winds blowing, winters coming on. I thought our summer would last forever. But now it's December," adds further weight to the sense of despair and longing that permeates the song.

Overall, "Cold" is a powerful and moving song that speaks to the universal experiences of heartbreak and loss. The lyrics are well-crafted and evocative, with the music serving to enhance the emotional impact of the words. The song highlights the skill and talent of The East Pointers as musicians and songwriters.

And I have never ever felt so cold

And now that you're gone
The only thing swings coming

Seen them at Shetland folk festival 2016. Best performance by far. My girlfriend at the time asked them to sing more on their songs and low and behold there's more songs on the new album. I like to think we influenced them. Haha. Their songs will forever remind me of her. I'm a fan forever now.
