Mad About the Boy
The Easy Virtue Orchestra & Jessica Biel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm mad about the boy
And I know it's stupid to be mad about the boy
I'm so ashamed of it but must admit the sleepless nights I've had
About the boy

Oh, on the silver screen
He melts my foolish heart in every single scene
Although I'm quite aware that here and there are traces of the cad
About the boy

Lord knows I'm not a fool girl
I really shouldn't care
Lord knows I'm not a school girl
Who's in the fury of her first affair

Will it ever cloy?
This odd diversity of misery and joy
I'm feeling quite insane and young again
And all because I'm mad about the boy

I'm feeling quite insane and young again
And all because I'm mad about the boy

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Mad About the Boy" express the feeling of being infatuated with someone, even though the person knows that it's foolish and possibly shameful. The singer admits to having sleepless nights and being embarrassed about the intensity of her attraction towards the boy, who is likely an actor in the movies or on television. She describes how watching him on the silver screen makes her heart melt, even though she knows there are moments when he behaves badly.

The second verse acknowledges that the singer is not naive or inexperienced when it comes to love, but that she is still consumed by her feelings for this particular boy. She wonders if she will ever stop feeling this way, despite the mixed emotions of misery and joy that this "odd diversity" brings her. The final lines of the song express the idea that her infatuation has made her feel youthful and crazy once again.

Now I learn that one of the most beautiful women in the world can also sing like this??? She's the total package!

@videomannengismo5355

everyne can sing if they have million and trillions of money to pay for a music cotch.

@austenhead5303

@@videomannengismo5355You still have to do the learning and the practising, and you still have to have a decent voice and a decent ear to begin with, so definitely not "anyone".

But yes, you are correct in less absolute terms - privilege helps a LOT. Just having time to practise is a luxury. One I for example rarely have. I'm typing this on my work commute, and I doubt the other passengers would be happy with me if I practised my "Mad About the Boy" on the train. I certainly can't do it at work, and I don't have much time or privacy at home. So. Yeah. Privilege certainly helps.

@videomannengismo5355

@@austenhead5303 hehe. Good to hear your not killing you co-workers with your practice. I believe absolute everyone with a voice can sing good. Even Johnny cash said so. Like me I am tone deaf. But still I manage to learn how to sing a pretty hard song for my exame back in the days.
And I am NOT a good singer. I just practice a lot before and found a technic. To see this celebrites get so much love for not doing anything is beond me. But everyone is right for their opinion.
