Come In You'll Get Pneumonia
The Easybeats Lyrics

My, my, look who's at the door
Standing in the rain
It's you, and I thought you'd gone

All right, come in you'll get pneumonia
You can stay until the morning
And then you goes your own way
You know you let your chance go
When you left me at the station
Don’t make yourself at home here
You knows you ain't staying
You telephone your mother
And tell her where to reach ya
And come and get you in the morning
But not to bring a preacher

I said all right, come in you'll get pneumonia
You can stay until the morning
And then you goes your own way
You know you let your chance go
When you left me at the station

I said all right, come in you'll get pneumonia
You can stay until the morning
And then you goes your own way
You know you let your chance go
When you left me at the station

My, my, what you waitin' for
What you crying for
Aw girl, left me the rain

All right, come in you'll get pneumonia
You can stay until the morning
And then you goes your own way
You know you let your chance go
When you left me at the station

I said all right, come in you'll get pneumonia
You telephone your mother
And tell her where to reach ya
And come and get you in the morning
But not to bring a preacher

I said all right, come in you'll get pneumonia
You can stay until the morning
And then you goes your own way
You know you let your chance go
When you left me at the station

I said all right, come in you'll get pneumonia
You can stay until the morning

And then you goes your own way
You know you let your chance go

Overall Meaning

The Easybeats's song "Come In You'll Get Pneumonia" is a catchy and upbeat tune with a bittersweet message. The song is about a lover who has left the singer, but shows up unexpectedly at their door in the rain. The singer agrees to let them stay for the night, but reminds them that they missed their chance by leaving in the first place. They also insist that the lover should not get too comfortable, telling them to call their mother to come get them in the morning, but not to bring a preacher.

The lyrics of the song convey a mix of resentment and longing. The singer is clearly hurt by the lover's departure, but can't resist letting them back in. The use of the metaphor of pneumonia as a consequence of the lover's actions, also demonstrates the singer's frustration with their actions. The offer to let the lover stay for the night shows that their love for them is still present, but the reminder of their missed opportunity suggests that there may be a sense of bitterness as well.
