EASYBEATS - HELLO, HOW ARE YOU
(H. Vanda; G. Young)
United Artists UA 25.756

The neon lights shine on the cars
And people rushing by
Through the fog in the chill of the night
And the rain comes pouring down
And suddenly I see her face
Coming through the crowd

Hello, how are you
It's good to see you here
Though you're late
I just wait like before
Hello, how are you
And ah, you're looking grand
With the way-ay you'll look evermore

The water-filled hole in my shoe
And the lonesome dollar in my hand
If I'd to stand here forever I'd stand
And the rain comes pouring down

Hello, how are you
It's good to see you here
Though you're late
I just wait like before
(Do you come in love or hate)
Hello, how are you
And ah, you're looking grand
(ohohohohohoh)
With the way that you'll look evermore
(do you, do you)

Hello, how are you
It's good to see you here
(ohohohohohoh)

Though you're late
I just wait like before

Overall Meaning

The Easybeats' song, "Hello, How Are You" is a heartfelt song that describes a chance encounter between the singer and an old friend. The song is set on a rainy night, amidst the hustle and bustle of a busy city. The singer, standing alone in the rain, sees his friend's face appearing through the crowd. He speaks to her, greeting her warmly, asking how she is and commenting on how good it is to see her. Despite the rain and the late hour, the singer is happy to wait for his friend while she takes her time to reach him.

The lyrics of the song convey a sense of longing, of someone who feels alienated and alone, but who finds comfort in reconnecting with an old friend. The "water-filled hole" in his shoe and the "lonely dollar" in his hand suggest that the singer is going through a rough patch in his life, but the arrival of his friend brings a ray of hope and happiness. The emphasis on the word "grand" in the chorus suggests that the singer is looking for validation from his friend, or that he sees something special in her, despite their years apart.

Overall, "Hello, How Are You" is a touching song about friendship and the ability of human connection to bring hope and joy into our lives, even in the darkest of times.

I know other Easybeats songs are more popular, but this is my personal favorite. Great song from an incredible band. Just-ordinary music becomes dated, but Easybeats songs have stood the test of time. Love the Easybeats.

@tubergetrude333

@martinworthington3168

One of the ten best songs of the 60s, imo

@misterpeppercorn3078

The Easybeats - YES! One of the greatest 60's - 70's bands of all time!

@david-lt9wj

I was around in the 60s and apart from Friday on my mind they didn't get much publicity...in the UK..
I've just discovered how good they were...and how brilliant Stevie was...we missed all their stuff really because we were being force fed Beatles and stones..

@yowodup6094

I believe this reached 20 in the UK, and st louis was a hit in the US.

@lindsayives4915

Agree like the kinks great from day one continuous fabulous talent stage presence giving their songs still sound the best .

@OldiesMomma

I agree with you that the beatles really thought that they were all great and powerful and that they were greatest band of all time. But there was a lot more songwriter and and performer s out there that just didn't get the station because everyone was falling at their feet like they were God s or something.😢😢😢😢😢. They should have had to work for all they got. So sad nobody else was looked at. They had their cash cow's and milked them hard.. 😢😢😢😢😮😮😮😢😢

@OldiesMomma

I have to agree. They were making way to much of the Beatles, and wasn't given any thought to other groups that were just as good. The Easybeats needed to be released in other countries to get their music out there so that they were Heard internationally and recognized every where. It should not have made no difference that they were from Australia.
Great music is great music

@suezyq14
