The Egg play live… Read Full Bio ↴'Like New Order floating on a cloud'- The Observer
The Egg play live house, rocktronic, funk and ambient influenced dance music, using electronic and live instruments, video triggering, samples and live and vocoded vocals. Their music is inspired by artists such as Pink Floyd, Groove Armada, The Beloved, New Order, Underworld, and the shoegazing/nu-gazing scene, and can be found rocking the club scene as well as chilled out festival vibes.
The band are well known on the UK festival circuit, but fit just as comfortably into DJ-led club environments and recently enjoyed a worldwide hit with Tocadisco's electro-house remix of their Air-like 'Walking Away' (and with David Guetta's bootleg of the same track). They have played throughout Europe, Australia and Brazil, and have just completed a three week US tour of the Mid-West and East Coast, as well as 2 nights including New York city's Nokia Theater having been welcomed into the US Jam Band Scene where they play comfortably alongside the scene's largest acts.
They started life in the fertile early 90's Oxford music scene as Cornflower Concept featuring bassist Dave Gaydon and with him still in the line up became The Egg, slowing building a dedicated following with their relentlessly energetic two hour live music dance sets with vanguard conceptual video and lights. Their commercial success became indisputable around the time of Albumen (1996, featuring David Gaydon and Mark Revell as well as Ned and Maff Scott) and when they started touring internationally e.g. South Africa in the late 90's. They were a key part of the Oxford music scene when Radio 1 Sound City came to the Cowley Road in 1998. Fans were less receptive to newer material, then a line up change brought new freshness to the set.
The band's most recent album, 'Forwards', was released in the USA by Spectacle Entertainment (Neurodisc),. They are working with/have worked with/ been remixed by: Mylo, Rollo (Faithless), Next Men, Decoder(Kosheen), Fila Brazillia, Monk & Canatella, Pentatonic, Grand National, Dusty Kid Pop, Tocadisco, Ulrich Schnauss, Camille Jones, Sophie Barker (zero 7), Oliver Koletski, Atomic Hooligan, Greg Hunter and then some....
They are currently working on a new album with producers Benji Vaughan (aka Younger Brother, producer of Forwards), Greg Hunter and Bruno Ellingham (producer of New Order, Goldfrapp, Mertz, and more...).
Members: Ned Scott (vocals, keyboards), Maff Scott (drums), Ben Cullum (bass), Matt White (guitar), Shaun Hunter (live sound + co-writing)
Walking Away
The Egg Lyrics

Feeling strange
Get on
And get it wrong
I feel
On the windowsill
Look through
I walk alone
Fall down to me
You stand and watch
Falling down
And I'm always walking, always walking away
Away
Unreal
Street seal
Sideways
To what you mean
Feel right
And so do you
We walk along
Then we get it wrong
I walk alone
Fall down to me
You stand and watch
Falling down
And I'm always walking, always walking away
Away
The opening lines of this song, "I'm slain, feeling strange, get on and get it wrong," speak to the sense of disorientation and confusion that can come with transitioning from one phase of life to another. The singer is feeling lost and out of their element, but is continuing forward despite the uncertainty. This theme is echoed in the second stanza when the singer describes feeling like time stands still while they are just looking out a window.
In the chorus, the repeated phrase "fall down to me" could be interpreted as an appeal for someone to support the singer during this difficult time, but it could also be read as a recognition that sometimes we must accept our failures and mistakes in order to learn and grow. The singer may feel like they are always "walking away," but perhaps this is necessary for them to eventually find their way.
The second half of the song introduces a relationship between the singer and another person, but it seems just as imperfect and flawed as the other areas of the singer's life. They "get it wrong" together, and the partnership may be "unreal" or superficial. Even as they walk together, the singer is always walking away.
