Gloria
The Eighties Electric Band Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Manchi tu nell′aria
Manchi ad una mano
Che lavora piano
Manchi a questa bocca
Che cibo più non tocca
E sempre questa storia
Che lei la chiamo Gloria
Gloria sui tuoi fianchi
La mattina nasce il sole
Entra odio ed esce amore
Dal nome Gloria
Gloria
Manchi tu nell'aria
Manchi come il sale
Manchi più del sole
Sciogli questa neve
Che soffoca il mio petto
Ti aspetto Gloria
Gloria (Gloria)
Chiesa di campagna (Gloria)
Acqua nel deserto (Gloria)
Lascio aperto il cuore (Gloria)
Scappa senza far rumore
Dal lavoro, dal tuo letto
Dai gradini di un altare
Ti aspetto Gloria
Ah, ah, Gloria
Per chi attende il giorno
E invece di dormire
Con la memoria torna
A un tuffo nei papaveri
In una terra libera
Per chi respira nebbia
Per chi respira rabbia
Per me che senza Gloria
Con te nuda sul divano
Faccio stelle di cartone
Pensando a Gloria
Gloria
Manchi tu nell′aria
Manchi come il sale
Manchi più del sole
Sciogli questa neve
Che soffoca il mio petto
Ti aspetto Gloria
Gloria (Gloria)
Chiesa di campagna (Gloria)
Acqua nel deserto (Gloria)
Lascio aperto il cuore (Gloria)
Scappa senza far rumore
Dal lavoro, dal tuo letto
Dai gradini di un altare
Ti aspetto Gloria
The lyrics to The Eighties Electric Band's song Gloria are about a woman named Gloria who is absent from the singer's life. He feels her absence everywhere he goes, noting how she is missing from the air he breathes, the hand that works gently, and the mouth that no longer enjoys food. The only constant in his life is the memory of Gloria, which he calls her name out of habit. The chorus speaks of Gloria's hips, drawing a comparison between the way the sun rises in the morning and the way love fills the singer's heart because of Gloria.
Despite Gloria’s absence, the singer waits for her, asking her to come back to him and end the pain caused by her absence. The singer emphasizes how much Gloria is missed, even more than the sun and salt, and requests that she come and dissolve the snow that smothers his chest. The second part of the song speaks of the various people for whom Gloria is significant, from those who anticipate the day to those who dream of being with her. The singer adds that he too envisions Gloria's naked body on his couch, but with the absence of Gloria, all he can do is make cardboard stars and pine for her.

This song always reminds me of my mother. She had a pretty hard life, 2 divorces one from an abusive alcoholic, raised 4 kids, and died at 42 of cancer. But on occasion this song would play on the radio and she'd forget her worries for just a moment and sing it like Laura Brangahan herself. My best memories was when I was in college and we went to 2 weddings within 2 years and we danced to this practically clearing that dance floor. I just remember her wide smile and how happy she was in the moment. After the 2nd wedding, she was gone by the following year, but before she went I played this for her in the hospital and tho she couldn't sing, she flashed that signature smile. This song will forever and always be her song to me.

What a beautiful story! Thank you for sharing. My mother has passed too. These memories are worth more than pure gold, I do know :)
