From Spotify:
Prolific multi-instrumentalists/producers Adrian Quesada (Brownout, Ocote Soul Sounds, Grupo Fantasma) and Shawn Lee (Ping Pong Orchestra, the Superimposers) formed the Electric Peanut Butter Company after meeting at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin in 2010. U.K. resident Lee and Austinite Quesada collaborated via e-mail, melding retro-funk and psychedelic rock influences with a Latin flavor, particularly influenced by bands such as Los Ángeles Negros and El Chicano. The duo's debut full-length, confusingly titled Trans-Atlantic Psych Classics, Vol. 2, arrived in 2013 on Lee's longtime home, Ubiquity, featuring offbeat reworkings of the Beatles' "Dear Prudence" and Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams." Vol. 1 followed in 2015. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi

The Electric Peanut Butter Company Lyrics

You say you want your freedom
Well, who am I to keep you down?
It's only right that you should
Play the way you feel it
But listen carefully to the sound
Of your loneliness
Like a heartbeat, drives you mad
And what you lost
And what you had
And what you lost
Oh, thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
They say women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know
You'll know
Now here I go again
I see the crystal vision
I keep my visions to myself
It's only me who wants to
Wrap around your dreams and
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
Dreams of loneliness
Like a heartbeat, drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering what you had
And what you lost
And what you had
Ooh, what you lost
Thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean you'll know
Oh, thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
They say women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean you'll know
You'll know
You will know
Oh, you'll know
The above lyrics are from the song "Dreams" by The Electric Peanut Butter Company. This song has an interesting backstory as it is actually a cover of the famous song with the same title by Fleetwood Mac. However, The Electric Peanut Butter Company has put their own unique twist on the song, featuring a funky and groovy sound with a hint of jazz. The lyrics deal with themes of freedom, loneliness, and relationships and are delivered through poetic and sometimes ambiguous language.
The opening lines of the song suggest that the singer is speaking to someone who desires freedom, possibly from a relationship or a situation. The singer acknowledges the other person's desire for freedom but also implies that they don't want to hold the other person back. The following line "play the way you feel it" could be interpreted as encouraging the other person to follow their heart or pursue their passions. However, the next line "listen carefully to the sound of your loneliness" suggests that there may be some regret or sadness associated with this decision. The following lines "like a heartbeat, drives you mad, in the stillness of remembering what you had, and what you lost" are particularly poignant, evoking a sense of heartache and longing.
The chorus includes some of the most famous lines from the song: "thunder only happens when it's raining, players only love you when they're playing, they say women, they will come and they will go, when the rain washes you clean, you'll know." The imagery of thunder and rain suggest that difficult or tumultuous times are necessary for growth or change. The line "players only love you when they're playing" can be interpreted as a warning against people who only seem to care when it serves their own interests. The final line "when the rain washes you clean, you'll know" suggests a sense of clarity or enlightenment that can come after a period of struggle or hardship.
Overall, "Dreams" by The Electric Peanut Butter Company is a soulful and funky cover of a classic song that deals with timeless themes of love, loss, and personal growth.
