Band on the Run
The Fab Four Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Stuck inside these four walls,
Sent inside forever,
Never seeing no one
Nice again like you,
Mama you, mama you.

If I ever get out of here,
Thought of giving it all away
To a registered charity.
All I need is a pint a day
If I ever get outta here
If we ever get outta of here

Well, the rain exploded with a mighty crash
As we fell into the sun,
And the first one said to the second one there
I hope you're having fun.

Band on the run, band on the run.
And the jailer man and sailor Sam
Were searching every one
For the band on the run,
Band on the run
Band on the run,
Band on the run.

Well, the undertaker drew a heavy sigh
Seeing no one else had come,
And a bell was ringing in the village square
For the rabbits on the run.

Band on the run,
Band on the run.
And the jailer man and sailor Sam
Were searching every one
For the band on the run,
Band on the run

Yeah the band on the run,
Band on the run
Band on the run
Band on the run

Well, the night was falling as the desert world
Began to settle down.
In the town they're searching for us everywhere
But we never will be found.

Band on the run,
Band on the run.
And the county judge who held a grudge
Will search for evermore
For the band on the run,
Band on the run

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Band On the Run" by The Beatles are about a person who is stuck in a confined space with no contact with the outside world except for the motherly figure. The opening lines of the song describe how the singer is trapped inside four walls, isolated from the rest of society, and can never see anyone nice again like their mother. The singer daydreams of giving away everything they have to charity and escape the confines they are in. All they require is a pint a day to get by.

The second half of the song centers on the "band on the run." The chorus of the song repeats the line "band on the run" multiple times, and the verses mention sailors and jailers searching for the band. The mentions of the rabbits on the run and the undertaker drawing a heavy sigh create a sense of doom and hopelessness for the band's fate. The song ends with the county judge holding a grudge against the band and searching for them without any success.

Overall, "Band On the Run" is a song about confinement, hopelessness, and escapism. The singer is trapped inside their four walls and longs for freedom, while the band is running away from the law and the authorities.

Must have been at the end of the concert because Ardy's voice isn;t very steady. Having said that, I enjoy WingsBand videos and wish there was a ready CD of one of more concerts.
