The band consists of Clark Baechle, Todd Fink (formerly known as Todd Baechle), and Joel Petersen. They signed to Saddle Creek Records and released a few singles, but were unable to establish widespread sales, though they were extremely popular in the Omaha-area. After adding Matt Bowen, The Faint released Media, which established them within a small, national community of fans. While touring, Bowen left and was replaced by Jacob Thiele who helped move the next album, Blank-Wave Arcade, towards a more dance and electronica influenced sound. The album was an underground hit. Partway through the creation of the morose Danse Macabre, The Faint added Dapose, a death metal guitarist formerly of LEAD. Danse Macabre was also a critical and commercial success and has helped to establish a wider fanbase for the band. Their 4th album, released in 2004, is called Wet from Birth.
In 2002 bassist Joel Petersen released the first album from his solo project, Broken Spindles, and he has since released two subsequent albums and had a U.S. tour. Guitarist Dapose also has a side-project, Vverevvolf Grehv, releasing his first album in 2008.
On December 12th, 2005, The Faint announced that they have moved out of The Orifice (a rented out warehouse they used to record Wet from Birth) and into ENAMEL, a 100-year-old building where they recorded the tracks for their next album, Fasciinatiion.

In Concert
The Faint Lyrics

And get hit by the strobe light
While we're playing the doors
We play in a bar, we play in a basement
We play in a room where the mix is bright
They help at the door, they age to get in
The artist is smoked, they don't sound like they did
Got things on your mind, she likes
Yeah, that's why we've come to collect your bodies
From the lover's sighs of suffering
At least I've been saved, yeah
[Break] (unintelligible)
You're not on the list, you paid to get in
Your boyfriend is mad, it was something you did
The concert's tonight, the bass drum is quick
Got things on your mind, she likes
Yeah, that's why we've come to collect your bodies
From the lover's sighs of suffering
At least I've been saved, yeah
That's why
That's why we've come to collect your bodies
From the lover's sighs of suffering
At least I've been saved, yeah
The Faint's song "In Concert" portrays the experience of a band and their audience in a live concert setting. The lyrics describe the typical bar or basement rock show atmosphere, where strobe lights hit the audience as the band plays, creating an intense and hysteric environment. The singer observes the audience, noticing that they are mostly young and eager to enjoy the performance. They are willing to pay to get into the show and even sneakily find ways to do so. The band, on the other hand, is fully into the performance, even if the sound system is not perfect. They have come to collect the bodies of the audience from the lover's sighs of suffering, which could convey the idea that music can provide an escape from reality and comfort to people.
In a deeper sense, the lyrics of "In Concert" could highlight the paradox of a live music performance. While the stage artists create a fantasy world for the audience to enter, many times it is the audience who also provides escapism to the musicians. The singer seems to acknowledge that even though the performance might not be perfect or the sound system malfunctioning, everyone has come together to enjoy a unique moment in time. The last verse, "That's why we've come to collect your bodies, from the lover's sighs of suffering, at least I've been saved," could be interpreted as the artist comforted by the fact that they are able to play music and escape their problems, while the audience finds solace in the performance.
