Strange
The Feeling Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't you dig this life
They call the meek
You whose feet are on the ground
And if you get too high
What goes around comes around
And brings you down
'Cause people gonna see you
How they wanna see you
People gonna rate you
People gonna hate you
People gonna shove you
People gonna love you
People gonna do whatever
Makes them feel they own you better

'Cause everyone knows we're strange
(Ah)
So why do you feel ashamed
(Oh) Baby
Everyone knows we're different
(Ah)
So why do you feel ashamed
We love you all the same

That's why
'Cause if you feel it
And if you mean it
Don't apologize
And you'll be just fine
Cause all they ever need is what you'll give them
Is what you're given
They only put you down if you give them permission

'Cause people gonna see you
How they wanna see you
People gonna rate you
People gonna hate you
People gonna shove you
People gonna love you
People gonna do whatever
Makes them feel they own you better

'Cause everyone knows we're strange
(Ah)
So why do you feel ashamed
(Oh) Baby
Everyone knows we're different
(Ah)
So why do you feel ashamed
(Oh)
We love you all the same

We love you all the same
We love you all the same, yeah

Overall Meaning

The Feeling's song "Strange" is very relatable to anyone who has felt like an outsider, different or judged by others. The lyrics speak about how people are going to perceive and judge you no matter what you do and how you should embrace your uniqueness and not be ashamed of who you are. The song touches on the societal pressure to conform and fit in but encourages listeners to be themselves, as people are going to love them regardless.

The song starts with the lyrics "Don't you dig this life they call the meek, you whose feet are on the ground" which shows how society labels people and how they should behave, but in reality, people come in all shapes and sizes and should be celebrated for their differences. The chorus "Cause everyone knows we're strange, so why do you feel ashamed" reiterates that people know they are different and that there is nothing wrong with that, encouraging listeners to be confident and embrace their uniqueness.

Throughout the song, there is a repeating pattern of "People gonna see you how they wanna see you, People gonna rate you, People gonna hate you, People gonna shove you, People gonna love you, People gonna do whatever makes them feel they own you better", highlighting that people are always going to judge and have an opinion on you, but you should not let that define you.

Overall, "Strange" is an uplifting and empowering song that encourages self-love and acceptance. It is an anthem for those who feel like outsiders to embrace their uniqueness and be proud of who they are.

I've been listening to The Feeling A LOT again lately, particularly with the passing away of my dear, precious friend, Carol, who absolutely loved The Feeling the first time I introduced her to their fantastic music. This is the first song I had her listen to and she loved it. In fact we both loved it due to the fact that we were both involved in a spiritual path that has been often ridiculed and mocked and that many view as strange. We both also had been bullied in various ways in our lives growing up, so we could definitely relate to this song. God I miss you Carol!
