Turn It Up
The Feeling Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, I know what you're after
It's a rock and roll disaster
Like you see in the papers
That you read on escalators

Did you smile 'cause you want it?
Did I put my finger on it?
It's a dream till you've lived it
To receive you've got to give it

Don't say anything
You're talking but you don't say anything
You don't do anything
You're moving but you don't do anything

So turn it up, turn it up
'cause little love just ain't enough
Yeah, turn it up, turn it up
Ain't nobody wants to be alone
There ain't nobody wants to be alone

Did you notice
When you walked into the office
With a cup on a plastic tray
All the joys in life that have slipped away?
Did you notice?

You don't say anything
You're talking but you don't say anything
You don't do anything
Keep moving but you don't do anything

So turn it up, turn it up
'cause little love just ain't enough
Yeah, turn it up, turn it up
There ain't nobody wants to be alone

Turn it up, turn it up
'cause little love just ain't enough
Yeah, turn it up to big love
And when your heart is sinking like a stone
Ain't nobody wants to be alone

You don't say anything
You're talking but you don't say anything
You don't do anything
Keep moving but you don't do anything

Yeah, turn it up, turn it up
'cause little love just ain't enough
Yeah, turn it up, turn it up
There ain't nobody wants to be alone

Yeah, turn it up, turn it up
'cause little live just ain't enough
Yeah, turn it up to big love

And when your heart is sinking like a stone
Ain't nobody wants to be alone

Overall Meaning

The Feeling's song "Turn It Up" is about the desire to escape the mundane and routine aspects of life, and turn up the volume on excitement and passion. The opening lines capture this sentiment, as the singer speaks to someone who is after a "rock and roll disaster" that they have only read about in the papers. The lyrics suggest that this person is looking for something more exciting and daring than their current circumstances.

Throughout the song, there is an emphasis on the idea that to truly experience life and love, one must take risks and give of oneself. The line "To receive you've got to give it" implies that the singer sees love as a reciprocal act - in order to build something substantial, both parties must be willing to put forth effort and take chances.

The chorus repeats the phrase "turn it up" several times, which could be interpreted as a call to action for the singer to embrace life and love with more enthusiasm. The repeated phrase "there ain't nobody wants to be alone" adds a sense of urgency to this message - the singer wants to avoid loneliness and is urging the listener to join them in turning their life up to the next level.

Overall, "Turn It Up" is a song about the desire to break out of the monotony of everyday life, and embrace love and adventure with intensity and enthusiasm.

This band shows fantastic taste in music, video production styles, and all around great chops. I never heard of them before now. Restores my faith in pop music. I thought we were doomed to hip-hop forever. Pop music needs another British invasion. We had the 60s, then the New Wave of the early 80s which christened MTV. Now, that network is beyond awful as is most of pop music. This, however, is very, very cool.
