This was such an underrated character, in an otherwise great season of The Office. Yes, Michael was gone, but they didn't attempt to replace him with a carbon copy of the same thing. The show also had more stories to tell, and this was a great diversion.

I always loved how they just re-made the show instead of trying to copy Michael Scott. Unfortunately this character went under rated and they replaced with him a new version of Andy who was just that, a a carbon copy of Michael Scott. And the copy is never as good as the original. I liked season 8 but season 9 was just horrible. Plus Ryan and Kelly weren’t there any more and I feel their absence in the writing more than as characters on the show.

I really admire how Andy reacts to this list the office saw Robert had made. Throwing/attempting to throw a pizza party when Robert takes the “cool kids” to dinner. It shows one of the ways he was a good boss, sometimes he cared about them and hated to see them sad, hence why he's always making stupid jokes. Doesn't happen often but he really does something good there.

I love how Toby self selects himself out of the group after Kevin talks about how he likes Elmo because of his tickling, it shows that Toby has such low self-esteem, that Kevin's pure confidence about talking about what he likes about Elmo is somehow too intimidating for Toby to engage with the conversation confidently. By that I mean I'm sure Toby knows what Kevin is saying is stupid, but Toby thinks so lowly of himself he doesn't even see himself on par with Kevin's rambling. Like hypothetically even if Toby understood what Robert was talking about most than anyone at that table, I don't think Toby would have the confidence to speak-up and join the conversation.

Erins impression of RC was brilliant idk why in the world they chose to not leave that scene in the show. If you didnt like erin before, you would after that. And i bet James Spader got a real kick out of it too, i wish i could see any bloopers of that scene

After Michael left, Robert California was one of the best things that happened to show for me. I wish they'd kept him on the show longer, honestly.

I liked the part where Robert went back to the office to say the list can change, because Andy started defending the people that weren't in his group, with Robert being intrigued by the fact that Stanley had the highest consistent sales in branch history. People outside of the group can improve and get in his group and the people in his group can fall out, just as easily.

The steamroller part with Jim is incredibly intimidating and a complete power move. The entire time he’s asking Jim “will you be steamrolled” he’s really saying “are you in control here” and Jim says yes, but RC knows Jim is only saying that because he isn’t actually in control. Brilliant

Your statement is true Jim isn't in control, but Robert is encouraging Jim's(and others) personal growth which is genuinely reflective of his character in the show

I guess people hated his character bcoz they thought he is Michael Scott replacement. He was not his replacement and he added to The Office US unique humor. Love the Lizard King ❤️❤️❤️

Michael is my favorite character, was devastating when he left, but Robert made bearable the season 8 , I was fascinated with his haunting and hypnotic speeches. He brought a different tone although not comedic . I'd liked to see more of him.

I didn’t realize that people didn’t like Robert. He was always a highlight for me cause you never knew what was gonna come out his mouth. It could be nonsense but it always sounded profound

Ps. I see how his intro could have been really odd if you were watching it as it aired. I binged the show in college so while it was weird it didn’t hit the same

In a vacuum, Robert is fine. He's entertaining, and unexpected. But he enabled Nelly, who is easily one of the worst characters in the entire show, to take over. For me, that made the show more frustrating to watch than enjoyable
